Heading down to the mid coast tomorrow. Just curious what topwater lures others like to use. I usually use a Top Dog by Mirrolure. what do y'all like to use?

I am not sure you'll get much of a topwater bite right now. I am taking some with me this weekend, but will have more Corkys, slow sinkers and some TSL Grasswalkers.

But for topwaters, I do like the One-Knockers and Baby Spooks, Bone, and Redfish patterns are my faves, but some Pink is always in my tackle box. Under certain conditions (choppy, dirty water or I know I am in a pig pen), I will also launch a SuperSpook.

orange or pink skitter walk. any skitterwalk, it is my favorite and the only top water I throw. and i throw a top 90% of the time i fish. the top water bite is on big time right now and has been for a while.

One knocker pink or bone. TopDog Jr would be my second choice. Topwater bite has been really good the last week. Fish are shallow (thigh to knee depth) on the middle coast. Pink was working really good but Saturday bone seemed to work better under same conditions. Go figure. Don't be afraid to throw one right now.

You guys that tout the Spook Jrs.....I learned last Fall on a 32 inch snook, that the trebles are not thru wired. I got the fish to net and luckily had to remove 2 hooks, but the tail hook was not connected to the plug anymore. I was only using 8 lb. mono, so undue stress was not the cause. Just a heads up. I can't speak for the super spooks or one-knockers, but being bigger, I hope the hooks are a little better anchored into the plug.

The one knocker is my go to. I'll use jr. in really calm shallow in spring and summer. The rest of the time I'm throwing the onekocker. I'll throw the one knocker shallow too is there is some wave action.

3 most consistent baits in my wade box,... fat boy, one knocker, TSL. add a jr. and a rat tail and I can wade 11 months with that box.

I keep it pretty simple with topwaters....I carry big ones and small ones. And they are either bone or black. If the water is relatively calm, clean, and/or skinny I start with the Jr size. If the water is choppy, murky, and/or deep I start with a bigger one. Color wise I go with what my gut is telling me. I used to only use black in dirty water but have had enough epic trips on black in gin clear water to know better.

A couple exceptions to this are as follows.....
1. I always carry one big obnoxious topwater that is loud for chocolate milk conditions.
2. For very skinny gin clear water on a calm day I throw a very small topwater called a zip'n piggy. I don't think they are made any more which is a shame. I've caught some real beast on it in water less than 12". I ordered a couple dozen about 10 yrs ago and I'm glad I did.
3. In the fall I'll work in some 808 (Halloween color)

Has anyone noticed the fish in certain bay systems seem to prefer one type of topwater over another? For example, if I'm in POC/west matty spooks rein supreme. If I'm in east matty, it's skitterwalk time. Not saying the others won't work but my success rate is very different.

I think it has more to do with what bait they are keying on, like shad over mullet, but even then that's a stretch. it's just an opportunity for them. If you put a topwater infront of them and they are in an aggressive enough move, even in 6-8 feet of water.. they'll eat it. SkitterWalks seem to work pretty well out over deep water, she dogs in dirty or rough water, superspooks when they are on Big Bait, or want a big bait. jr.s during the spring and summer. I have a small bass pro pencil that's great around glass minnows for some reason.. it's erratic. One knocker is my favorite all around.. bone or bone diamond get's it done more times than not, but the trout pattern and the oakie shad are solid. And yes, while not a topwater, the TSL - Grasswalker walks right under the surface and they'll eat it.. especially like the others have said..

I'm having a guy paint a one off one-knocker pink top / white belly for me.. LOL.

Spook Junior in chartreuse never fails me unless there aren't any fish where I'm fishing. Never had a hook pull out of one either and I've caught some big reds on them.

I always change the treble hooks out for single hooks to help with the grass.

Tobin's Grass Walker is an excellent bait as well and has become one of my favorite lures.

Skitterwalk bone and chartreuse is another favorite. I don't usually fish a large bait like the Super Spook in the summer but I do in the winter.
