Yamaha 150 waterpump problem

I launched my 2001 Vmax this morning and no water would come out of the pisser. I shut it off and got the trailer back in the water and when I cranked it to load on the trailer, it started peeing. I shut it off again, parked the truck, cranked the motor and it would not pee again so I took it home and checked the water pump. I could not find anything wrong with the pump which was installed about 3 months ago. Any Yamaha guru's out there with any ideas?

you need to check the pee hole indicator hose. They are notorious for getting clogged up with junk and not allowing the indicator stream to come out. It doesn't always neccesarily mean your motor is not being cooled, it is simply an indicator that water is definitely flowing. I would undo the hose from the fitting on the lower cowling and run something like a length of stiff wire up it to try and dislodge whatever is in there, then crank it again on the hose and see what happens....... Good that you double checked the water pump. I just had to do the exact same thing twice with a buddy's boat and the father in laws boat, both times something was lodged in the indicator tube...... Good luck

Agreed. Sand and other crud is able to travel thru the hoses fine until it gets to the plastic piece where the water discharges. Pull the rubber hose off then pull that plastic fitting off and blow it out.

Mud & Bugs

Get a wire and stick it in the pee hole and make sure you don't have anything plugging it up. I have a 150 Vmax and mine has stopped peeing before out in the bay after I got up in shallow water with a mud bottom and the tube was clogged with mud and shell fragments. Even bugs can crawl in there and clog things up. If you don't have one, get a water pressure gauge. I knew I was OK when my motor stopped peeing because I still had good water pressure.
Hope this helps,

The pisser is only an indication water is flowing, not reflective of how much water is flowing. So you could have a clogged pisser (run through sand or grass a lot?) or the something else like. I've had this happen before, take a small wire and see if anything is there at the exit, otherwise you can put a hose up to the pisser hole to see if you can back flush a little.
