why do we have dishwashers?

For the past 26 years we have lived in a house with a dish washer. Our family was not big enough that we could fill it up with dishes from one meal. If the dishes did not get rinsed off to an almost clean state, the crud would dry up before the washer was full and the washer would not get them "clean". Then you would have to clean them again. The situation I have posed to my wife, and one that I practice: Add a little dish soap to the initial rinse and put them in the drying rack. In an hour they will be dry and you/I can put them in the cabinet. Less water overall used, less electricity used, less time spent in the process. What do the folk out there say?

Even when I cook, the majority of the dishes I just wash by hand. I can finish cooking dinner and maybe only have one dirty piece of cookware. Wife will cook the same meal and have two dirty pans, a dirty pot, and other misc. stuff that is in the sink. Noticed I said in the sink because even if the dishwasher is empty, she will put them in the sink.

When I load the dish washer, I put the smaller stuff in there as well as the silverware. Big items I hand wash and put away. Our pots and pans have to be hand washed, so they never go in the dishwasher.

Also, it doesn't matter if I have 10 dishes or 30 in the dish washer I turn it on as I go to bed that way they are good in the morning. Wife will leave them in there for a week before running it. She is also notorious for leaving her food on the plate and putting it in the sink. We have a trash can and a garbage disposal for a reason. Clean your plates off. Heck, our faucet is that fancy one that has the flat jet spray mode and makes it SUPER easy to blast your dishes clean.

Can you tell this is one of my pet peeves around the house? As I kid I never understood why my dad would get so bent out of shape about it. I get it now Dad.... I get it.

We have a nearly new one. Gets used on holidays or when the Filipino has her 15 lady posse over for lunch. (That is a complete novel on its own)
We found that after the kids left home that pare plates and bowls were the ticket.
You can buy 500 plates for half the price of a jumbo box of those little dishwasher soat thingies.
But you need a tight lid on the trash can to keep the ***** out.

I’m the OCD one in my marriage. When my wife loads the dishwasher, I have go behind her and redo it right.

These 2 really drive me crazy: putting knives in the utensil holder blade side up so that I get stabbed when I unload it. And, putting really tall objects on bottom that prevent the spinning thing from spinning.
