Hookset all the way! Since you are going with Aubrey, he is going to tell you to keep it as minimalist as possible. Keep the spare rod in the boat. Also, the chances of you dunking a reel non stop is pretty great with a rod holder on a belt unless you are in knee deep water all day...which could be the case with him right now.

I've used a Wade Aid belt for the last 10 years. Plenty of back support with a little flotation in case you get a little too deep. Also has a couple of rod holders in the back if you want to carry a spare. I hear Wade Aid went out of business but the EZ Wade is similar.

My vote is Hookset..........very high quality and made here in Texas. Got one of theirs about 6 years ago and it's still going strong like the first day I bought it. I'm not a fan of wading belts with the back support that floats. Personal opinion but for me I don't like them floating up my back when wading deeper water.

To the OP, congrats on grabbing the belt from your neighbor. The FREE one is the best one out there!!

Thanks to all of our customers that recommended the Hookset Marine Gear belt. We have been building our belts here in Texas in volume since 2007 and receive messages from customers often that are using their original 5, 6, 7 year old belts today! Our belt is a bit "over-engineered" from a durability standpoint, but it is designed to last. We use stainless steel D-rings instead of plastic. We use double and triple cross stitching, and our only use of velcro on the belt is for a stringer loop holder and at the plier overlay. Our lock down camber closure is the best available on the market (well...in our opinion).

Some people don't even want a belt at all. Some prefer a chest pack. I believe TTF makes one of these. Coastal Fishing Gear makes a cool contraption that is worn like a backpack. Their design keeps the rod holders high and all your accessories as chest level. Good folks running that company as well.

The Wade-Aid was the original Texas "premium" wading belt. EZ-Wade has a very similar design with some cool color options. Some folks want the flotation, others do not.

Foreverlast offers a complete set up with pliers, stringer, belt for around $50. These may not have the same durability as some others, but for a complete setup, it's not a bad deal and they are readily available at Academy and other retailers.

There are a bunch of options for anglers out there today, and we would recommend trying out a friend's belt for a couple hours before you make your choice.

It's good to see there is still some class hanging around this place.

Very well said.

As a builder of custom belts I quickly learned there is no "Be All to All" with wading belts - or any gear for that matter. There are too many variables between anglers for one belt to be the best. Suppliers should strive to produce a high quality product and provides the greatest value for the customer. When suppliers get it right customers willingly share their product approval - like seen in this thread.

Each wading angler has to figure out what they want in a belt and then do their shopping. Fortunately the market has many options to meet the customer's need and budget.

Hookset belt

Tried to contact one of Hookset's competitors for a week straight with no response. Contacted Chris and got a call back within 30 minutes. Great guy and arranged an emergency Sat. delivery no problem. Glad the competitor failed to respond. If Chris's products are anything like his customer service I'm sure I'll be happy!
Thanks Chris.

x1000.........Hookset is fixin to get some of my business for just that reason....
Fishnlab showed some real class in listing all the competition. I too will be looking to send some business that way. My buddy bought one at the Srping fishing show and while all belts do the basic job well none are over built like Hookset. It will last a long, long time.

As for rod holders. I have an older Foreverlast and I ended up riveting holders on the belt. The original holders lost their elastic that was holding them, and the rivets do an amazing job. I always carry a spinning rig with a popping cork set up with me for wades back to the boat. I would suggest rivets over the one with slots. If you don't cinch your belt tight an extra rod will end up twisting horizontal more than you want to deal with.
