Anyone know of or fishing from a smaller diesel powered boat? Say less than 28' or so maybe a center console. Anyone have knowledge of the Yanmar diesel outboards? The reason I ask is that I am in the fuel business and can offer to bring very high quality diesel fuel for 3.50 per gallon to help lower the cost for everyone crewing the boat myself included. I would also like to own a smaller diesel fishing boat.

When can you show up, and how many gallons at $3.50 do you got?

What are you doing say Saturday round 5:30 a.m.? Me, I will be fishing a fuel effecient smaller (28 foot) diesel boat with three, typically top less, disese free, young ladies. Send photos of the fuel and I will respond with photos of the girls.

Albermarle 242 CC w/ a Cummins QSD 2.8 230 HP Diesel with Mercruiser Sea Core Bravo 3. I fished out of one running out of Duck Key in the Florida Keys for Sailfish last year in late January. Great boat - we were running in 3 to 5-ft seas and fishing! Diesel burn is slow at reasonable speeds. The engine sits under teh center console witha drivesaft to the stren drive

The Albemarle 242 is truly one of the finest all-purpose fishing boats under 25 feet on the market today. Featuring our advanced Jackshaft Power System, this unique boat combines fast, fuel efficient, and functional performance, with 360-degree fishability. A wide-open cockpit, soft dry ride, ample storage, and a long list of standard features allows the 242 to perform like no other boat in its class and makes it an unbeatable choice for the fisherman who wants a serious offshore center console that is easy to trailer, yet delivers the absolute best in safety, reliability, and angling adventure.

I fished alot out of a 23-ft 1975 Mako in-board with a 454 gas engine in the late 1970s. Some of these boats have been restored with new high speed 4-cycle diesel engines like this one:

I love my 29 Strike with twin cummins, get good fuel economy and is fast. It would be hard to go back to a outboard because of the ride, it is wet but never bangs. Ran it 47 hours, never turned off during Poco and ran 426 miles and burned 280 gallons of diesil, that is pretty decent when you factor in it idled 10 hours at nite. I am all about that $3.50 diesil, I am paying $3.90 tommorrow for 220 gallons of red diesil, get much better mileage than ULSD and crazy as it sounds my transom gets soot with ULSD and not with offroad diesil.

The 'Geaux Deep' is about a 31' Bert with twin Yanmars that is extremely fuel efficient compared to inboards with gasser 4-barrels. Not sure how it compares to outboards in dollars per hour but it definitely had a smooth ride at about 21 knots on a plane. Not uncommon.

Newer inboards are mostly low-emission diesel to comply with EPA regs but the specification fuel is red diesel #2, which has a little more sulfur than the ULSD. By 2012 or so marine engines are supposed to be on ULSD so enjoy the price break until then. (I happen to know this for my business.)

Flieman I was interested in your comment about visible smoke being higher with ULSD than the regular old red diesel. The carbon content of ULSD and red is exactly the same, so perhaps you got more black smoke because ULSD is so watery ... don't know but some of the tugboat operators hate ULSD because it is so thin. By the way, you really need to use synthetic lube oil with ULSD because it lacks lubricity ... I'm all for saving money because that stuff's expensive. -sammie

Fliemans new "Gitter Dunn" is a 29' Strike Center Console with twin cummings. Gets good mileage has A/C in front cabin runs 32 knots Sweet ride.
I Saw Kevins boat in POCO it was a sweet looking ride. I have fished with a friend of mine on his Pro Kat and it has 120 horse cummins in it. You can fish two days on about 120 gallons and at 28 foot it is a stable running boat.

I live in Waco and can offer anyone who takes on a crew to share expenses the fuel realy cheap. I am producing a superior diesel fuel from lightweight machine oil that I have found a wonderful source for. Very similar to 3 in 1 oil but with a viscosity very close to diesel and can be mixed in any ratio with pump diesel or run straight. It has much more lubrication than ULSD, runs smoother, quieter with better MPG and power. It is centrifuged and filtered to .5 micron and processed four times before being packaged. If anyone doesent like it I will buy it back from you but that is not the reason I am on here. We sell all we can produce localy but I thought it would be a great way to barter for some offshore fishing and learn some about smaller diesel boats. BTW there is only .2 PPM sulfur in this fuel oil but it has much more lubrication than red or ULSD. It is what diesel fuel should be and not the **** you buy at the pump. I am working on a EPA approved storage facility so we can produce 8000-10000 gallons per week.

where did you see this boat? theres a guy that lives down the street from me in galveston that has one. windshield broke on one side. i fell in love with it myself the first time i seen it. i'm more then sure it gets good gas mileage. looks like it would make a good offshore boat for a day trip or maybe a overnighter if you don't mind no where to sleep. who needs to sleep on a overnighter?

Small diesel

I have an Angler Diesel Panga 26 in Freeport with a mercruiser diesel. It is very economical. It will get 6 mpg offshore and cruises at 25. Its not as fast as an outboard but I feel like its worth it at 6 mpg. The hull is long and narrow and does handle the waves very well. This is because it is able to plane as slow as you want. Just set the throttle to a comfortable speed and enjoy the ride. It will fish up to four people , but 3 is better. If you only have 2 people don't worry because you will only burn about 25 gallons.

I wait for a day that is less than 2 feet. It is easy to captain and fish at the same time.
