I want to put a youth stock or cut down a full size stock to put on a Model 700 .308 for my son. ( I want to keep the original stock intact.) I've been internet shopping and have a question. Will any short action Model 700 stock fit the .308. I see alot of long action /short action stuff with no reference to caliber. Thanks for any help.

PS. I'm a paying customer if you have one to get rid of.

As long as the model number is the same, all 700 short action stocks will fit all short action rifles.
A different model number, may have a different barrel profile and probably won't fit properly.
That is not to say there ain't a manufacturing tolerance, that may or may not cause accuracy problems when swapping stocks.

I would check Ramline or Bell and Carlson or better yet a used SPS youth stock. The first two are a little tricky to cut down and remount a recoil pad because they are either hollow or foam filled.

The route I would consider if the current stock is plain looking is to go ahead and cut it down saving the cut off for later leanth additions. When he quits growing get a nice full sized replacement stock.
