It talks about people on the coast saying they don't want to see those in their backyard, but I think they look cool. I wonder if they electrocute the fish? Suck to get a short :rotfl:

 

I would hope the engineers design them so they look like a mangrove tree beneath the surface. That would be sweet.

most of the structures being planned to put in on the east coast right now are all monopile bases. they have some designs for a small 4 leg base as well but i havent seen many in the plans for east coast yet.

 

I don't see how those turbines could withstand hurricane force winds.

 

Super charge mode will solve it.

 

The thing is, they cost more in carbon energy to make than they save by their use.

With the price of Nat Gas being so low - it would be hard to justify the cost of those in TX

Maybe in the NE but the pay off would be questionable

It’s like solar- 20 yr life span of panels is the time it takes to break even

 

This topic pops up every so often and I always find it interesting. Last time I brought it up I did a little digging and found somewhere that the offshore wind mills cost 10X more to build than the ones on land. If that's true then I reckon it'll be a long, long time before anybody attempts it. My suggestion was to build them on top of derelict oil rigs instead of tearing them down, but it was meant more as a joke than a serious suggestion since they're supposedly so cost prohibitive.
