Can you guys please take a few minutes and put down the pros and cons of this boat. I am curious to learn about the handling, fishability, fuel economy of the hull and general overall performance of this boat in the flats and crossing big open water when its rough.

Thanks

Wow, thats a tall order lol

Ok, My Mosca is a 2007 with 175 zuke... I have around 800hrs on mine so can fill you in ALOT lol.

Efficiency: Currently, I cruise at 29mph with a burn of 6.3gph.. If i take it to top out at 5800rpm i burn 14gph @ 42mph.. (not the fastest boat around by any means)... BIG difference...

This boat handles GREAT in the shallows.. Will run super skinny in 6" , however i rarely go that shallow unless i have too lol.

With the JP on 6, the boat handles loose and feels great. However, this is not the most fuel efficient spot, so i operate most time at 3" on the jackplate.

The boat handles very rough water well if your going strait into it, if your quartering there is alot of spray due to how far forward the V is... This boat prefers top out during rough water conditions. However, let me say this.. I TRUST THIS BOAT ANYWHERE AND IN ANY SITUATION... Ask around lol, ive had this boat in 5' plus seas in tournament conditions crossing some of the worst waters in the state and she handled great.

IN Shallow water, she handles like a dream. Scoots across the top of the water , gets up in 12" to 14" depending on the driver..

She will EAT A CHOP UP!!!!!!!!! PERIOD

Design and layout a great. There are a few things that have changed on the hull since i got mine, but not much... If you seriously go with this boat, talk to several owners to see what they recommend about changing.. I have only one thing i would change, and its not a big deal...

Fishability is Great.> You can fish 4 easy.. The extra foot of width makes this boat a superb fishing platform with PLENTY of room, plenty of storage.

Any other questions, feel free to PM me or ask here.

I now have 80 hours on mine since I bought it 9 months ago with 20 hours already on the clock. If I were to post up everything I've learned so far, I'd just about be re-typing Texxan1's post. SO..."What he said" works pretty well.

I do have a 200hp V-Max on mine so i get a little more speed. With a light load, I can touch 50mph on the top end, and I cruise at 40 mph at 4500 RPM's. I can plane at less than 20mph with no trim tabs. If i had the tabs it would be considerably less.

Stability is great, and there's no substitute for the 9' beam. PLENTY of fishing room! It handles the chop just fine, but it's not the driest riding boat out there. I think the 9' beam makes for a slightly bumpy ride compared to narrower boats. My buddy's Tran 2280 XLR8 is much smoother, but he can't get nearly as skinny and doesn't have nearly the room in the boat to fish.

6" is by no means stretching the truth. I've had it there on a sandy hard bottom and gone back and waded it out measuring with a check it stick.
12-14" Is what it takes me to get up. Maybe a little less in mud. I have been very impressed with the boat's ability to handle the shallows. Another thing I've noticed is how little water it takes to actually float the boat. Never measured, but when my trolling moter has one blade in the mud and the other in the air....the Mosca is still floating.

Been a great boat so far! I'll be in gorda for the next 2 weekends. Holler if you want a ride.

What he said and....

+ Great deck with room to fish out of the boat. You can walk the deck while working a big red, ling, ... king. Flush boxes stay dry. Self bailing deck drains well.

+/- Stable wide hull. Trade off is speed and efficiency, as stated the ride is tradeoff is small. Speed and launch depth as stated in earlier posts.

+ Enough V and bow high height for nearshore in ~ good conditions. As stated in earlier post the boat will run shallow as well.

+ Three rows of seating works well for long runs to the fishing spot. With a 4-stroke the rear facing seat is ~ quiet.

+ Wide console gets you out of the wind and rain. Lots of room on top for electronics.

+ Performance Shade works well with the wide console. At least two rows of the seats are shaded most all the time.

+/- Good under deck storage, above deck is limited. Adding a cooler for dry storage under the leaning post helps.

+/- Can't leave the launch or wash station or storage or gas station or...without someone stopping to ask you about it.

+/- Cesar will customize it and get it right. Need to be patient with build timeline and delivery date.

What these guys have said is what I was going to say as well. The only thing I will add is if I had to do all over I would have gotten either the 175 Suzuki or the 250 ss and not the 200 Suzuki that I have. The reasons are, the 200 is a good motor but built more for an offshore boat than for a bay boat. The 175 is just as fast and gets better miles per gallon and is lighter. The 250 ss would be a better choice only for the speed. I have almost 11,000 miles by my GPS on my boat. It has been 48 miles offshore and in a many a flats from Panama City Florida to South Bay in SPI. I have had no hull issues at all.

follow up

Durtjunkee,

thanks for the offer but I will be in Seattle for the LSU v UW football game then the next week I will be at the home opener. If your offer is valid for other times please let me know how to contact you and I will try and plan a time to meet you.
I am down to two boats, the XLR8 and the Bay Raider so it would help to spend more than 5 minutes in the boats. I will be hanging a 200 ETEC on whichever one I choose so I think that I should get a good top end and a quicker pep in the hole shot vs the suzuki. I enjoyed my last suzuki but it didn't have a great jump up on my TranCat.

PM me here and we'll schedule something. I have a house in Matagorda and am down most weekends. Dustin Lee is down there most of the time too.

Get the 250SS from Cesar when you buy the boat. Quiet effecient operation....nothing else to say. That's what I'd have, had I not gotten mine second hand.

I can probably line you up on a XLR8 2280/250SS ride as well.

ONE MORE THING! Don't get the lights in the bow! More trouble than they're worth!
He just got a few new styles that should be better. I installed a set on a friends cabin cruiser. One of the sets I saw was on a yellow bay raider and they were projector beams in a stainless housing. Much nicer design then the old bow lights. Just FYI. Give Ceaser a shout maybe?

I don't know who make's them. Me and Cesar are fishing on Sat so I will ask him. When i told a couple of people that i was going to put them in They said don't because you can't see anything with them but Cesar said these new lights really work and they do. I think they will reach out about 15 to 20' when I'm running in the morning It is just a little added security I'm trying to up load a picture but it's not letting me

If you get the regular console you will have more deck room and it seems right..

On the rear hatches. Have cesar make boxes on the left side, like the box he makes for your drain plug and livewell pump suction... This way if you do get water in that side, it will drop down into the catch box and not sit in it.. Trust me on this one!!!!!

Get the rear fish box insulated and plumbed for a livewell as well. gives you LOTS of options

I love my raised deck/console. It easily doubles storage capacity. I have plastic totes full of tackle etc. that I keep under the deck, out of the way, until needed. It also increases visibility, and gets you up above most of the spray in rougher conditions. The livewell on the front of the raised deck is handy as well. However...find another place for your second cooler versus putting it directly under the lean post....see the pic I posted. It's a pain to get in/out and access sux to it as well.

I think if I was building one from scratch, I'd have the raised deck/console minus the livewell in the front. I'd put a full size cooler there, move the rear cooler down to the floor, and put an insulated livewell in the rear of the raised deck under the leanpost. Then the livewell could serve as a fish box, cooler, dry storage, etc. when not pumping water.

I like the way Durtjunkee's boat is set up but like he said, I would do away with the livewell on front and go with an ice chest there. I dont have the raised console on mine but did have an ice chest put in place of the front livewell since I needed a place to put fish in 1 box and my client's food and drinks in another box. A 48 qrt cooloer under the leaning post was not going to cut it for 4 folks who like to eat a bunch and drink plenty of cold beverages and that was not even putting any of my food or water in there. So what I did was extend the back deck to have a livewell in front of the motor and give more of a rear fishing platform to fish off of. Also this gives you bigger storage boxes in the rear. You can see this in the pic. Sorry it was the only pic I could find off hand but look under the pile of fish and you can see. Where the wading boot is in front of the motor you can see the livewell. Right there in front of the motor is how much my deck is extended.
