Mono leader for top water ?

Do you use a mono leader for your too waters ? I had read that fluoro and braid sink so it sinks the head of your top water ?

Went and tried out the top water today, mono leader did fine.

One question though If I tried to do a walk the dog for more than about 3 or 4 pops, my line would sometimes get tangled around the tip and eye of the rod... what am I doing wrong
