****, that is amazing...I am convinced now, if you got 100hr on a merc with no troubles I guess everyone should switch..................
There are way more Mercurys on the water than Suzukis so it's you will obviously hear about less Suzukis being broke down than Mercurys but is the percentage of mercurys breaking down more than suzis, I think not. Mercury will run faster, get on plane faster and have better fuel economy than the suzuki. Plus the Mercury will come with a 5 year warranty so you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. I've got 100 hours on my Mercury Pro XS without any problems.

I am with everyone else. Why look at a mercury for speed then look at a suzuki for fuel economy when you can get the best of both worlds with the SHO?

mercury vs.zuke

Guys, the only problems I had with my Mercury 225 Pro XS was warranted, even had some issues after warranty that Mercury covered. It never left me stranded. Zukes are good motors, but every Zuke I have seen that is 4 years old, in saltwater use, have a lower unit, hub area issue, with leaking from a crack in the housing. I'll get better fuel economy with my Mercury, out run the Zuke, and won't crank my Mercury while it is running, (I can hear it).
That being said, I perfer to buy AMERICAN!!!

Mercury is not ameican made FYI

Mercury Outboards, 30 Hp and less, are made by Tohatsu in Japan.

Mercury also manufactures some larger size engines in China which are the 30+ to 90.

Mercury also manufactures engines over 100 hp in their Fond du Lac hub.

Chill dude, don't let me ruin your day by ragging on your slowzuki. The way these threads go nowadays people make it sound like Mercurys blow up in less than a 100 hours and Suzukis run strong past 59,000 hours. Please forgive me for throwing my 3 cents into the pot.

Suzuki has had some major problems with corrosion, and I would do my homework before dropping major cash. Google it for yourself.

Buy what you want. You can listen to everyones biased opinions on here, but it boils down to what you want/prefer personally. I can tell you that in the last two years I have put about 400 hrs on two different suzukis and never once did I get stranded or even had a single issue with either, not to mention I outran every merc that got close, and made just as good mileage. So take it how you want, but those are the cold Hard facts.

I see your boat is for sale in the classifieds... What you going to get next?

You have some hate built up for Mercs!!! I personally have had pretty good luck with them besides a few coils. Never has left me hanging 2 years and 245 hours later fishing hyper saline water in the ULM and LLM.

I heard of a Merc that passed you with ease this year...

I would be willing to bet my cash that the fastest boat in every tournament you fish has a Mercury on the back....sure they get pulled in some but sure run good when they run...lol

Me and Eric towed a suzuki for an hour and somehow didn't take a picture. I'll regret that forever (the favor was returned too as one towed me in the next time I hit the water - and I think Chuck got a pic of that).

Seriously, don't listen to any of this non sense from any of us. Go run em both and decide for yourself. Think a lot about price and service - prob the most important thing to most people.

Actually the only boat that has ever passed me in a tournament was a majek extreme with a Yamaha SHO. Now don't get me wrong, I never left out just ahead of a stingray with a 300merc and had him go the same direction I did, lol! I was saying that identical boats to ours with mercs got outran by me each time the challenge came up.......all that being said, my next engine will probably be an SHO......I will sure miss the suzuki the first time the propshaft breaks on the SHO and I have to release 17lbs in the ditch...I guess then I'll know how the merc guys feel,LOL..............
