Mowdy is a great all around boat.

The RFL is the king of ultra skinny back Lake exploring. Asking it to do anything else and you will be disappointed. You sacrifice ride quality, handling, speed, efficiency, which days you can go out on etc. You sacrifice a lot for those laaaaaaaast two inches of skinny or so.

If you reeeeeeeaaaaallly NEED an RFL you would know it. If not the Mowdy is a better choice in every catagory.

As is any of the other Tunnel Vees.

I’ve ridden in one several times but not skinny. I would guess it runs in 6-8 inches and probably gets up in 14-16 or so. Maybe an owner will comment. Ride is excellent. Not really a good comparison to an RFL. A 21RFL will run in 4” and get up in 10-12 depending on bottom.

The only issue that I have always had with the Mowdy is the lack of storage so keep that in mind if you go with one. Get a raised console to get more storage in that hull. They are very well made boats and different models are made for different types of fishing.

For the POC area I'd go with the Mowdy or a Tran Sport or JH B40 just because West Matagorda Bay can be a real PITA if the wind gets up and you would have a boat that runs shallow and takes rough water as well.

Like sgrem said above, the RFL is a chiropractor's friend when ran in open rough water, but in the back lakes and shallows it's pretty much the King.

See my Avitar:
The C25 Mowdy is the closest thing to the perfect do it all boat out there.
Skinny ?????? Wow, they advertise 5". I have made long runs through 3" or less. Book a fishing trip with Dewayne Lowry down there & let him take you through the paces in his Mowdy.
I run the 250SS Suzuki with a custom Power Tech prop.
I have had my boat sitting on the bottom ( not floating ) in about 8" of water more than once & not had a problem getting up. Hard sand would be sketchy though.
That long hull has no bow rise when trying to get up. That big tunnel directs water straight to the prop.
We have had it 30 miles offshore also.
Oh BTW an 80 Lb. thrust I pilot is all you need on it for a trolling motor also.
They can build in whatever style of storage you want.
If I had to do it all over again, I would put 2 35 gal bladder gas tanks in the hull.

I'm new to the whole skinny water world, and my first bay boat was a RFL. I've gotten it up out in +/- 5 inches of water. Ride is rough, but it's a flat bottom. I have yet to get it stuck, but we will see how long that lasts when I can get back to the coast. I am biased since I've never ridden in a mowdy. 21 RFL w yam 150 TRP is the way to go though!
