Never had one of the modern Lews, all my stuff is Shimano, but it is time to upgrade and I'm not a fan of the current Curado and Chronarchs.

I am trying to figure out the difference in the different Lew's Reels and what will be good for me for throwing artificials while wadefishing.

What is the difference between these two reels:

Team Lew's LITE Speed Spool LFS Series 7.5:1 Left Hand Casting Reel - LTLL1SHL

-and-

Team Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spool Casting Reel 7.5:1- TLCP1SHL Left hand - TLCP1SHL

They seem to have the same specs, but one is about $20.00 more than the other.

Team Lews Lite is bullet proof. Custom pro is very similar and the only noticeable difference are the round knobs. That being said, my Lites seem to take abuse better and water stays out of the gears better. I rarely ever rinse, clean, etc. They get used 2-3 days a week on average.

I fished with Shimanos for the last 30 yrs and recently bought 7 Lews Lite reels off Ebay.. I bought the TLL1H or the 6.8:1 model.. This reel retails for $240 but I bought 2- $179 each, 2- $154, 2-$143 and the last one for $128 all new in the box.. They kept getting cheaper and Ebay kept giving me coupons so I kept buying them.. I sold 2 and kept the rest.. They seem to be pretty awesome.. Even taught my 11 yr old son how to throw and baitcaster so I gave him one too.. I prefer the Lite to the Custom Pro bc of the handle I don’t care for the knobs.. essentially its the same reel tho.. I like them.. Small, Strong and only 5.7 ozs plus the spool holds plenty of line..

The main difference in them is they have slightly different shaped frames. They both use the same materials but the Team Lew's Lite is a slightly wider frame at the front. It is subtle but you can see it in the pictures on their site and can be felt in your hand when palming the reels, mind you it is a very slight difference. The TLL is also 0.1 oz lighter. The TLCP has a little bit longer handle. Both are great reels and you would be happy with either!

I recently purchased the Lite and absolutely love it. I also have a new Curado and am not that impressed with it, especially when compared to the Lew's. Hands down the Lite is the best reel I have ever owned, and I've owned a few other non-Lew's reels in the $350 price range. I can't speak to the longevity of the reel (although others have), but the way it feels in my hand and the smoothness of it are incredible. Now I'm looking at the Pro-TI Speed Spool, but I'm not sure how much better it can be, since it's difficult to be greater than great.

In short, my suggestion would be the Lew's.

Loved my tournament lite. But lost it on a laguna pole out of the back of my truck a couple weekends ago. Broke my heart. Also lost a stradic c4 on another laguna rod. Actually found the spinning set up, but it had been ran over. I assume laguna doesnt warranty that! lol

The Team Lews Lite is 5.7 Oz and the Custom Pro is 5.8 oz.

The Custom pro is a little newer

The Custom Pro has a 10 mm longer handle (95mm vs 85 mm)

Tacky Winn Grip reel handle (pro) vs eva reel handle (Lite).

I am sure you'd be happy with either one.. I love my Team Lews Lite and have been using it in salt for 3-4 years now.. same reel.

Cant go wrong with either one, as I have both. Cut weight on the Custom Pro through a smaller spool size. 110/12 vs 120/12.

I still like my BB1 Pro at 160/12 still going strong after 4 seasons.

Which new curado are you talking about? The curado K? I actually use both the curado K and the team lews lite. I love both of them!

I like how the curado K has a bit bigger handle and it does feel great in my hand. I also like that the XG version has a faster gear ratio than what is available in the lews. But what I really love is you can buy them for 150 bucks on ebay with free shipping. Hard to beat that deal on a great shimano reel. The micro gears really do feel amazing.

The lews light is also amazing! However you wont be finding them for only 150 bucks. It also feels great in my hand and is definitely the lightest reel I have ever held. The biggest thing is this thing can cast a mile! It cast as far as my curado with only an 1/8oz jighead while my curado has 1/4oz. It 100% out cast the curado K when fishing very light lures. However I feel that after you step up to 1/4 oz and up things get pretty close between the 2 reels and maybe even start favoring the curado K with heavier baits. Great reel but will def cost more.

Im anxious to know which model curado you have because I have been nothing but happy with my curado K.

eBay is the place to buy Lews. My last 4 reels have come from there. Saved ~$40 on each reel.

Team Lew's Lite (TLL1SH) is a nice reel but the Tournament Pro G (TPG1SH) has the same basic internal build and a slightly larger crank handle. The Tournament Pro G is also less expensive than the Team Lew's Lite. The Team Lew's Lite looks more flashy with its silver and gold and it has the cool cork grip. I switched to Lew's a few years ago and I fish with both models and I love them.

I recently purchased another Lew's to add to my rotation and I chose to buy another.... Tournament Pro G. Aluminum frame, 100% centrifugal brakes (no magnets), carbon side plates, carbon crank handle, 11 bearings. Purchased from Sportsman's Outfitters on eBay for ~$149.99. Super great buy.

x2 on eBay. Lews Lite is $240, I got mine sealed up brand new in the box with the tags still on it for $175.

To be honest though, the only Lews I really do like is the Lite. I can't get a feel for the handles on any other Lews. I don't like the paddle handles or those knobby handles on the Custom Pro reels. The cork/eva handle on the Lite though, perfect!

Yup.. All my reels are Concept reels aside from the one Lews and Shimano Casitas that just sits on the rack.

To each their own, but I've always preferred the Concept reels because of the way the feel. Out of Shimano, Lews, Daiwa, Abu, whatever, the 13 Fishing reels have always been the best fit for me. I love how small and compact they are, they have a big handle, small spool (I prefer), and I LOVE those cork knobs. The braking system on them have always been my favorite too.

Another deal about 13 Fishing.. Every other reel company, I have particular reels from each brand that I like the feel of, and that I don't like. I've used every baitcaster from 13 from the Inception all the way up to the Concept E, and I love the feel of every single one.

Have a TX, two C's, a Z, and an A. My favorite is that TX. That thing screams! But my oldest is a C and that thing still spins like it came out of the box many reds/trout later. It's got it's beat marks and boat rash, but not a problem. If it wasn't for all the rash on it I could probably pass it off as brand new. I kind of want to get a Concept E, but 1, I'm not paying $400 for a mag reel that the salt will eat up, and 2, I have too many reels already that I don't even use.

Lew's BB1 Inshore IS1SH

Since these were brought up I have 3 brand new in the box and 3 used (lightly) for 6 total. They are all the BB1 Inshore IS1SH 7.1 gear ratio. Even the used ones still look pretty good. If interested Pm an offer to me. One used reel has brand new Fins Windtamer 30lb yellow braid, never been in the water.
