Having trouble getting my corporate e-mail setup on my Blackberry. This is a personal phone, so I am not wanting to go through our IT department. Any suggestions.

Yes, in many cases, companies have BES, or Blackberry Enterprise Server Licenses that must be purchase for each device hooked up. The software needs to be downloaded to your blackberry to make it work. This is much different that using a yahoo or gmail or earthlink or other types of free accounts. Should they not want to pay the expense of a license and download it, you can easily setup a rule in your mail server to forward some or all of your email to a free account, and use that.

blackberry email

You can download blackberry desktop redirector to get your email. You will need to leave your computer on in order to do it. You do not need to go through your IT department to do it.

You don't need BES to get work email on your phone if you can access OWA.

Make sure you are using the correct login, you need to set an email option that leaves a copy on the server and set the parameters for your phone to check for new messages.

What a shame us nerds get such a bum wrap. I can't say I blame you guys for trying to get around IT, but it makes our job tougher. In the company I work for IT tends to forget that operations guys are what pay the bills. Sorry for highjacking...

There is an icon on your menu screen (make sure to select "Show All" in the options) for "Email Settings." Select that icon. Chances are that your office does not have a blackberry enterprise server soooooo you have to set it up the hard way. With that said, once you click on "Email Settings," you will be directed to a web site and you simply click to "Add a New Address". You will need to know the server information to enter on your phone. Just ask a co-worker or an IT employee how to access your email remotely (this will not tip anyone off that you are having the email sent to your phone). They will provide you with a server address and login information and you just enter it in the fields as prompted. If all else fails, call the Blackberry Customer Service number provided by your cell phone carrier and they can set it up for you, but you will need the server and login information to have it set up. Good luck. It is a pain...I had to do the same thing!!! UGH!
