I'd look at Hibler's stuff with a real open mind. Mr Hibler taught my dad to do taxidermy. My dad even used to have a bunch of his old molds and what not. The stuff that Mr Hibler did was great and the place has a great reputation but I'm not sure the quality is what it used to be since his son took over. We went in to to shop shortly after the son started running things and if I remember correctly, they were using forms from Mackenzies. Mackenzies is a taxidermy supply shop out of the midwest (I think) and their stuff is about as cookie cutter as it gets. If you see a Hibler and still like it, I'd say go for it but don't be surprised if it's not quite what you remember.

We've started taking our stuff to Realistic Taxidermy in Castroville. You could probably get it done cheaper but I don't think that a mount is a place to try and save pennies. I'd rather pay a lot for something and enjoy it on the wall than save a buck and have to live with it.

I had a deer mounted at Hiblers last year. Looks great to me but they were a little pricey. sorry for picture quality, took it with my blackberry

 

I wouldnt have it done by anyone else... they did mine 2 years ago and did a great job, only bad part is it took a long time to get cause theyre so busy but its well worth the wait.

 

there are several good taxidermists who do work a couple of notches above from Hiblers-a little overated

 

Hiblers has been around 25 plus years, but, depending on where you are located, Azlin Tax. in Clute tx. gets all my whitetails or mule deer from now on.
He did my last two and they are the best I've ever had done. A++ to him.

Reeves Taxidermy!

 

Grew up in Kingsville and know Hibler, so I'm probably a little biased but I wouldn't have a mount done by anyone else. It's a matter of personal taste, to me Hibler doesn't "muscle" the deer up like some taxidermist, but again that's just my .02..Hope it turns out great whoever he ends up with! Forgot to mention that I have a mount he did about twenty years ago and still looks like the day I got it back.
