Thinking about gettin one of these, saw them at the boatshow and got quoted for a price, going to test drive soon.

Does anyone have any opinions on this boat? Previous Experiences? Any input is welcome.

I think you will like the hull. I had a 20 HS for a little while and was most impressed with the boats ability to be able to run the jack plate up on 4.5 and take a tight turn (coming from Harvey's pole in Jones perpindicualar to the ICWW on plane and making the 90 degree turn into the ICWW) without blowing out. The Gilley's are very service oriented folks to boot. The hull IMHO is the best of both worlds...not as skinny as some but rides good and dry in a little chop. You should be able to get that hull up and on plane in upper calf to knee deep water.

I have been running a GC 200 since 1995, I have absolutley love this boat. This month I am going to get the 200 pro. These are perfect boats for bays like galveston, matagorda, ect. Some say the variside models are different and change the whole effect of the boat. Whatever that means. I don' know because I only have experience with the low side model. I agree with what someone said about the guillys people, they are very service oriented.

I run a 22 variside for about a year. Like Roughneck said, good hull for running open bays like Galveston, Matgorda, Sabine... I also agree that the Gilleys are good people. I had a couple of hinges have problems and she mailed me enough new stainless hinges for the whole boat.

I purchased mine from Redwing. They're great to work with.

Preface this with saying that I have never been in one or even seen one in person. From what I have gathered, it is a good boat as far as quality, just not particularly fast, not particularly better riding than anything out there, and not particularly shallow. For me, if I was dropping that kind of coin, I'd have either a very fast boat, a very shallow boat or a boat that could bust the big chop.

I agree with Stuart on this one. We rented one a year or so back to fish in a couple of days. My friends boat blew a lower unit, so that was our only option not to lose fishing days. We were in the 25ft Gulf coast, and I was excited about it because I have been looking for a bigger boat to replace my 22' Blue Wave ST with. I must say that all of us were solely dissapointed. It is the roughest boat I have been in. We went out in about 10 MPH winds and very minor maybe 1' waves in Aransas bay and we could feel every ripple. I really could not believe how rough a ride it was. We did a little shallow running in it and it was not that impressive either, not bad, but not impressive.

I am not a boat snob and could care less what model I or anyone else has, but I would take my blue wave over that boat in almost every way. This is just my unbiased opinion. My buddies boat is a 21' Explorer with a smoother ride than the Blue Wave and quite a bit drier as well. I would take either over the GC based on our experience. I am now looking at the South shore 26 or the Shallow sport 24 as better alternatives. Take it for what it is worth.

HERE'S THE DEAL

Don't buy a gulf coast if you want the fastest, or the skinniest or the dryest or the smoothest running rig on the water. BUT... if you want a solid rig and one that does well in all catagories as a whole, BUY IT.
It's about the best ALL AROUND rig you can get. I run a 250 Variside and we run in 8 inches and also venture Offshore with it.
it floats in 10", gets up in 15 LOADED full of fuel, ice, tackle and 6 people on board and with a 225 vmax she runs 49 mph WOT by GPS. thats fast enough for a 25 foot bay rig in my opinion.

I have run a 23 Pro now for a year and a half and am very satisfied with it. Mine is rigged with an Evinrude Etec 200 HO and pushes it 45 mph. It will supprise you how skinny it will run and it is very dry. Today I picked up my Gulfcoast 210 which is the newest in the Gulfcoast line and am having it rigged at Busha's in Bay City with a 175hp Suzuki 4-stroke. If you want a versitle all round boat you will not be dissapointed with a Gulfcoast. I like the Pro style deck with rod storage below the deck.
