When I saw the Grandparent's names thread I thought it meant their given names and I thought how interesting, some of our grandparents had really unique first or first/middle names/name combos. Then I saw it was about what we call/called our grandparents. Which was cool too. :) But did any of ya'll have grandparents with interesting, distinguished, old timey sounding names? (No last names, unless you want.)

I have a Dolphus Gideon who married Hattie Mae. Murtis Clyde married Vera Virginia and William Bartus married Wynama. (Wy-name-uh)

You don't get names like these much anymore!!

I got a Thyrodell in the family-- or did until recently when she passed. Also had a Slim (real first name) and an Elziney, a Selton and an Eloyce. Pretty creative if you ask me. But nowadays can you imagine the butt kickin a kid would take with one of those monikers?

William Bartus was my grandpa, but they named my daddy W.B. (Jr.) Not William Bartus Jr. W. B. Jr., initial only. Go figure.

When Daddy was in the USAF they put W only, B only on his paperwork and when he checked into one of the bases the guy processing paperwork asked in a shocked voice, " Your name is Wonly Bonly?!?"

Every time I hear the name Shirley or a man I think of Leslie Nielson ... in Spy Hard? ... every time someone says "surely" he says don't call me Shirley. :)
