Good Galveston area places to take a kid fishin'?

My son is hooked on fishing, we landed over 100 sandies, a nice black drum, and a few smacks at SeaWolf park's pier two weeks ago, last weekend we nailed the bonnetheads and saw some huge red bulls hauled in at the Galveston pier. We're really liking seawolf park, and will try the Texas City Dike soon too, especially when the Jacks are running.

Where else can I take my son fishing around the bay system and surf? We'd like some variety to get him some experience with different kinds of fishing. We're going to wade the pocket on bolivar, go down to Rollover pass one of these days, and look at whatever areas we are clued in to from fellow fishermen.

Any ideas where we should go for some fishing? I know there are tons of laces people go, we're still new to this (well, I'm not but I was mainly a surf fisherman back when I fished a lot).

Thanks in advance, and my son will be thanking you as well!

Scott head out to tc dike and right after you cross skyline dr. you will see a little island to your left.Walk out to the end of that island and you will usually find some good specks.Word of caution though the currents can be bad just make sure the little one has a life jacket on.Sounds risky but I own a boat and still go over there to fish,it can really pay off sometimes especially this time of year.

You do have to be careful on the dike. Scum will rob you blind, even take stuff out of your truck or boat while your buying bait. The piers in Galveston are pretty good sometimes, especially at night when the trout start running. I like the San Luis Pass pier myself. The Flagship hotel charges to fish from the structure. Good thing about it is you can drive out to the end, watch the folks fish and walk around to see how the water looks and if anyone is catching before you pay to fish. Sometimes I'll drive out to get an idea of what the water looks like before I pay to fish on that lot or another pier. Also, on the flagship your car is pretty close or right behind you wherever you decide to fish so you don't need a cart to haul stuff around.

Thanks for the tips. We've been planning a trip to the TCD, robbing huh? I guess I'll have to pack the cold steel too. We don't travel with much, so we don't present a juicy target, but I'll be on guard regardless. No stranger to thugdom, unfortunately.

We like the piers, we were there last week. I'm thinking we're going to hit San Luis pass pier next time for a change. I used to fish there as a kid, back then the pier was 75% over dry land, have the sands shifted lately?

And finally (yeah, new guy with too many questions, huh?) what about places in teh bay to wade? I hear there are a few places one can drive up to and wade out. Where, I don't know. That must be everyone's secret!

You might try the 18th st pier in San Leon south of the HLP discharge, or the surfside/quintana jetty and maybe even access 5 or 6 freeport side of slp for a few suggestions. Maybe even try a bay trip on Williams Party boats for four hours at $25. ea. Tried that with my wife last year and had a ball. Catch a big'un.

Galveston State Park on the bay side has a lot of good wading behind all the geotubes. I'm sure others have some good spots as well.
