DIY automatic pool filler - cheap and easy!

My pool is old, and doesn't have an automatic water level filler built in like new fangled ones do.

I had bought one from a pool store that attaches to a garden hose a year ago or so, but the valve went bad pretty fast on it. And it was very expensive for what it is (was)...

Found this on the Internet, built it for like $20 in parts from Home Depot and it works great! I don't plan to use it all the time, just when out of town or when it's crazy hot like right now.

Mine was actually simpler to build because I found a PVC fitting that had a hose connection on one end, and was 3/4" slip fit on the other. I did have to do the epoxy thing to get the valve on the elbow, but it was not a big deal at all.

Funny, my pool had a "Pool Miser" auto fill system plumbed underground with an access port cut in the pool deck. When it stopped working I opened it up to find that it was just a $13 toilet valve like in your DIY link. From the pool miser company a replacement was hundreds of dollars as I recall.
