What the difference between the two, besides the name?

Costco does more seasonal goods, Sam's normally carries the product year round.

You can walk in a Sam's with out a card if you would just like to look around.

Not sure on Costco.

Sam's has a lot more restaurant and corner store oriented stuff. Costco is a little more upscale and individual consumer oriented. And in our neck of the woods Costco is a lot nicer, cleaner, quicker to check-out, and has a friendlier staff than the local Sam's.
Yep. Costco meat is better for the most part IMO to. Althogh I do love sams steaks, for the most part costco meat is better and always a fair price for the quality.

sams=business oriented
costco=more for the indiviual.

I prefer costco all day over sams. Costco's own products are amazing. their foil, plates, toilet paper, paper towels, etc are all fantastic.

and before some one says it, yeah I know, the ceo of costco supports obama. But I could care less about that.

They will let you go into both without a membership. Sam's may even let you buy stuff as a trial but you pay 10% more without a membership. Sam's and I think CostCo will let you fill prescriptions there without a membership. CostCo pays their employees 42% more so employees are generally enjoy working versus Sam's employees are generally not happy campers and your shopping experience suffers. The CEO at CostCo takes a relatively lower salary than the CEO of Sam's.

its state law. no one can require a membership for a prescription. that being said, both of their pharmacy prices are way lower than walgreens and cvs.

costco is higher end. i prefer costco over sams cause i hate walmart. but sams is closer. after they finish the one in katy, i'll prolly go to it more.

also, costco tv's come with a standard 2 year warranty. sam's does not. also costco guarantees everything they sell forever except tv's, cameras, tablets, computers, etc. (they are 90 days). i have bought a printer and a gps once a long, long time ago. they are guaranteed to break. once they do, i take them back. they never ask questions. i like it.

also, if you are gonna spend some money in there, consider the executive membership. you get 2% back in cash. as much as we shop there, the membership pays for itself. i just got a check last week for $140.00. that was for a partial year under the executive as i just recently found out about it. if i had done it earlier, i could have gotten back up to $750.00. sams has the same thing, but i think their max is lower.

Lol. really? Costco is a little smarter about where they place their stores. never been "nervous" lets call it going into a costco, unlike most sams that are full of people that look like the "mugger" type
I know a certain lady and her family that felt safe in Luby's once upon a time too.

Fact is that they do not support the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution and as such I choose not to do business with them. If you do, maybe you don't either?

Correct, Sam's is way more flexible with payment. Sam's has many more locations, which is very convenient when you need to go to one away from your normal routine. Sam's typically has better household and food item stuff. Drinks, snacks, kitchen goods, etc. Sam's has better small business oriented stuff. The wait in line for me is typically faster than at Costco. Sam's has a simple pricing system where you can identify items that are being closed out and discounted.

Costco typically has better "stuff" and gear. Their items tend to be of higher quality at respectively higher prices. Costco has a better clothing department and better electronics. The stores are typically cleaner and the staff is friendlier. They have a better cafe and their coupon books (you don't need the coupons anymore) are great, even though Sam's is catching up here with their own copycat coupon book. They have better food samples during the weekend.
