Corky Devil question

I picked up a couple of colors I needed to replace. Had not bought any since Mirrolure took them over. I noticed the package is not long enough for the lure to lay straight. I asked the clerk about it since I suspect the memory in the plastic would put a curve in the tail. He assured me no problem. Well, of course there is a problem. I have Devils with curled tails and that will kill the intended action. I told Paul Brown years ago that I thought the action of the Devil made it possibly the best fishing lure ever. Why in the world Mirrolure would skrimp on the package I will never know. I'm sure others have run into this. What is the best way to straighten out the lure? Thanks in advance.

I feel your pain with MirroLure's quality control - I've had a several Fat boys from MirroLure sink backwards and tail first! To straighten the tail on the Devil, try a hair dryer on hot to soften the rubber, then hang it from the hook and pinch a 1 oz + weight to the tail with a clothes pin or paper clip. Let it hang for a day or two. Hope this works for ya!

The original package that he sold from his home was longer and the tails were carefully packaged to hang straight. If the tail is not straight, the action of the lure can not be what was intended. Smackdaddy, if you ever saw the action on an original Paul Brown Devil, you would know what I'm talking about. No, I'm not fishing them until some trout jerk them straight as you suggest. If I can't get them straight, I'm taking them back for a refund.

If you notice, the plastic bag on the original is longer. Long enough that the lure could be laid straight which is how Paul packaged them. Mishandling that lure pictured is why the tail is curved. The L&S plastic is not long enough to lay the tail straight. That is the problem. Look closely and you can see the difference.

Actually, the bags are exactly the same length, the only thing different is the size of the paper covering it, i measured. If anything, the mirrolure bag is bigger. Its the weight of the lure that pulls it down to the bottom. Pull them out, and use them, they still catch fish! At least they have for me. I also have a lifetime supply, and almost every single one i got from paul was bent!

Good news

I spoke with one of the higher ups at L & S (Mirrolure). They are considering going to a "clamshell" (hard plastic molded) package for Corky Devils. They are aware of the problem and want to solve it. The clamshell package will insure that the lure lays straight as intended. P.S.- there should be a lively market for used hairdryers in the near future.
