The poison ivy thread got me thinking about the days of when I was younger and my grandfather would rub bleach on my ant bites... It completely got rid of all bites almost immediatley. Does anyone else do this? Still use it today and no one believes me!

I can remember sitting in clorox water as a kid more than a few times but not for ant bites, it was for 'redbugs' n seed ticks, seems back then both were anywhere you got into underbrush, I havn't seen either in yrs n yrs...WW

Ant Bites

My old Grandmother used what she called 'washing bluing' on those West Texas red ant bites. I don't know what it was. Bleach?

Anyhow; it worked.

She had a whole bunch of home remedies that worked. Wanna hear about them? C2

Yes, I use bleach and it's literally been a life saver for me. I'm deathly allergic to ants. I go into anaphylactic shock which can cause death by suffocation within minutes. If I'm at home when I get a bite, I apply a cotton ball soaked in bleach and it prevents an allergic reaction. It's a whole lot easier than rushing to the ER or injecting epinephrine and Benadryl and then sleeping it off for the next 12-18 hours.

Disclaimer: This may not work for everyone. If you're allergic to ants, be sure to keep epinephrine & Benadryl around just in case.

Boy, that brings back old memories!

When I was a little rascal and would get stung by a yellow jacket or a wasp my mother would take the cork out of the blueing bottle and dab it on the sting location. It immediately stopped hurting. I guess blueing was a bleach of sorts?

Meat Tenderizer

Several years back, a lady friend made up a paste from meat tenderizer and water to put on chigger bites. 1 part tenderizer to 4 parts water.

Use a cotton ball to apply to the bites. It is said that it works on most insect bites.
