I'd take a marlin 1895 any day. Have shot a chiappa once and can't say anything bad about it. Have several marlin's and love them. I'm looking to get a new Ruger Marlin 1895 SBL in 45-70 in the near future. That would be my pick.

 

I really do like the 1895 SBL for sure. I wondered if the extra weight of the chiappa would make shooting more or less enjoyable /shrug.

 

I don't mind shooting a 45-70, but I'm also not putting tons of rounds range the handful of times I've shot buddy's gun. For my situation, if I end up getting one I'd buy one with a threaded barrel & throw a suppressor on the end of it if I'm going to shoot more than a few rounds at a time.
