Sorry for the ignorance, but what is bump trolling?
When do you do it, and with what bait?

Bump trolling is essentially bumping the boat in and out of gear trying to keep the speed to a minimum. This is done primarily when livebaiting, this could be done with any live bait from blue runners for kings inshore, runners or bonita for bills and tuna, mullet for tarpon around the jetties.

Can be used when drifting on the Continental Shelf ... the kind of bumping you're talking about is for king fishing. Using a banks sinker or small cannonball, bounce off the bottom - some wave action helps. Sometimes the clouds of mud attract the big fish. Mark a good reef and go upcurrent and drift back over it with jigs, tipped lures, or a livie. Fish the bottom to about 6 feet up - and let 'er bounce back down. BOOM! Same idea as bump trolling for kings but easier on your gears, and in deeper water.

Sometimes you can get several MPH if the wind & current is blasting - use a sock or chute if Boashna thinks it's a good idea. :rotfl:

Oh yeah? Whachu got against us bottom bangers, huh? My buddy over on the left coast is a banger for halibut using all metal and plastic, no cheatin' stinkin' bait. He uses heavy jig heads such fairly large white plastic grubs with long tails. Imagine catching a 30 to 80 pound flounder? Hehe, well it works on Gulf o' Mexico stuff too, except you'll git scamp, gag, groupa, snappa, and AJ.

Whew, I need to start drankin' beer in the shade, it's hot out yonder. :help:
