I believe that moon cycles communicate the time of year to fish and animals. It is nature’s seasonal clock. Just like humans used the moons for planting and harvesting for survival, the fish and animals have their seasonal to-do’s as well in order to survive.

I believe that fish already sense the shortening of the daylight hours. They know Fall is on the way, followed by Winter. They focus on fattening up in the coming weeks of Fall before the food source becomes scarce and water temps drop. Certain moons confirm the time of year but I don’t think that they wait for them to act though. They may create some urgency but the wise ones will have gotten a head start.

I saw it last night when leaving my daughters dance class. I never put much stock into it, Deer hunting after a full moon night in my experience was a waste of time though. In years past we caught flounder starting in Oct and on even real warm days in Nov when we were fishing in short sleeves, I knew something else was in play. That would be length of day. Regardless of water temp, they sense the shortness of daylight and know its time to move.

 

I believe it affects fishing a year ago, we were out full moon and picked up the biggest blue cat we ever caught.
The temp was changing as-well, its really nice to be on the water with the moon cycles.

Full Moons happen every 30 days. Last night's just happened to occur for the 2nd time in one month. The next one will be the harvest moon. Sept 29th. Always done well around that time.

 

Length of day. Legth of day. Length of day. Fish dont know that there were 2 fulls this month, but I think they do know about the super.

 

The hummingbirds sure sprang to life in the past couple days. Might have been the cooler days too

 

Y'all are wrong, it makes a difference, the fish bite in the morning is usually off. Sometimes even a day or two before or after as well, but the mid day bite is great. Just my $.02.

 

I know one thing, I have noticed; deer, hogs, and squirrels moving the last few days.

Perhaps its the change in temperature, but I think it does affect fish and wild game.

 

I would normally be at the Gal North Jetty at sunset as the Moon rises tonight.. Red Drum might show under the lights in force but No Crew to be found so it will not happen

 

If you look at solunar tables during full moon periods the peak activity or major feeding activity time is always around midnight and mid day. I believe in these tables and see a correlation when fishing and hunting. The exception being the peak of the rut and then I see deer no matter time of day

 

I havent created a patern for fish in relation to moon. mainly because I dont fish enough. Hunting though, I do know that deer under a full moon is the prime time...but...
They are non existent all day. Possible chance you may see a straggler mid day.
No deer out in heavy wind. No Dales out fishing in heavy wind either!! I dont care about the fish...conditions have to be favorable for Dale!!

 

For those that like solunar info, the best app I’ve found is Nautide. The free version gives you the current day’s info only. If you like to plan ahead, the purchased version provides the future days’ info too.

Nautide is very comprehensive and full of data. Moon info, tide info, weather info, major and minor times, marine forecast, wave heights, etc. The user interface is excellent and navigation is easy. Highly recommended if you like this kind of info.
