I am taking my brother kayak fishing in Aransas Pass next weekend and want to take him somewhere to catch trout under the lights the first night. Anybody know any good spots. If they charge for admission to the pier that is ok. Thanks, ET :)

Goose Island State Park has a lighted pier. Not sure the price or the hours. I'm sure you can check online with TPWD. We have gone there and fished 3-4 times and trout are caught under the lights at the big hump in the pier. During the weekend it may get pretty crowded but the crowd thins down as it gets later. Sometimes you have to wait around until they decide to start biting (may be as late as 3am). I think they also go to the end and fish for redfish.

The nearest pier to Nueces Bay Causeway is Indian Point Pier which juts out into Corpus Christi Bay. The Nueces Bay Causeway is an elevated roadway that spans the mouth of Nueces Bay where it enters into CC Bay. In order to fish it you'd either have to wade the edges or use a boat to fish the roadway lighting that illuminates the water between the divided highway.

Hope this helps.

AP piers

With the low tides recently, there may not be a lot of water under some of the piers discussed. When I went past the Conn Brown Harbor pier 3 weeks ago, there was a lot of exposed mud directly under the pier.

Wilded, if you own the kayaks you cited, or at least have around the clock access to them, you guys might want to kayak the canals in Key Allegro at Rockport. Lots of lights up and down those canals, plus they offer protection from the wind. You can launch at Little Bay park and be in the Key Allegro residential canals in a couple of minutes.

The pier at Goose Island SP is also a good spot for wading. There's a staircase down to the water midway down the pier that will put you near a gut that runs under the pier. Good luck!!

Weedless beat me to it. By far your best option is to take the kayaks over to Key Allegro in rockport. There are tons of green lights in the canals up and down Key Allegro. Fish a small DOA or a snall clear/light plastic. Let it sink down to the bottom and you will get reds. We always do very well in there. Sure there are lots of dinks but thats what you get with fishing the lights. There will be keepres in there though. It is a blast in there!

Wild, was it in Key Allegro? we have never had anyone say a word to us. Most just wave and say hi. Of course if the owners of the house are fishing thier light we just go on by to the next one. There are hundreds of lights in there so you can just move on.

Shouldn't be many folks around RP and KA, anyway

Cold weather is gonna keep alot of foks at home or inside. I'd bet you have the canals to yourself.
