I'm considering joining the shooting club over off FM 528 at the edge of Alvin & Friendswood. I have, in the past done my rifle sighting-in and practice at my folks place in Iowa Colony, but there are so many houses popping up out there, it really does not seem to be appropriate out there anymore, also I like to shoot 5 stand, skeet or SCs a couple of times prior to dove season.

I have shot over there as a guest several times over the years, but currently I do not know anyone that is a member. Can anyone tell me (replied here or PMed) what your experience has been over there recently, in regards to overall range safety of club members, conditions of the facilities/equipment, current political strife or clique feuding or anything that you think relevant for a potential new member to know.

My dad & I and hopefully my brother and b-i-l will probably join (if they'll have us) one way or the other due to proximity and lack of alternatives, I just did not want to go in blind and figured that several good 2coolers may belong to the club out there and have some insight for me.

Muchos gracias amigos.

PSC

One of my best friends is a member there. I was going to join and then changed jobs, and now work in The Woodlands. I will be moving up that way, so I did not join. I have shot there and was impressed with the facilities (rifle). We have shot as late as the weekend before opening and almost had the place to ourselves. It may get crowded sometimes, but I have not seen it. I have only shot skeet there one time, do not know about their 5 stand or sporting clays.

I'm a member there and I like it alot. I mainly shoot my pistols there so range safety isn't really an issue because they have like 6 ranges towards the back so we ended up using one of them by ourselves.

I did a few rounds on the skeet range and everyone there was nice. Overall it's a very good range and so far everyone I've met have been friendly. I haven't seen any safety concerns yet.

I'm a member at PSC, and for the $$, it's the best range in the area. Everyone is friendly, and safety is #1 out there. I've seen a couple incidents out on the rifle range that were dangerous, but they mainly involved unsupervised children, and the people on the range quickly "safed" the situation. People are not shy to speak up or call you out on safety violations, which is fine by me. Skeet is fun and cheap. Pistol ranges are fun and not crowded. They have organized shooting competitions EVERY weekend out there. It's family-friendly, as well.

Thanks guys for the information on PSC, I'm going out there for the next membership/orientation at teh end of the month.

I remembered it being a pretty fun place in the past, and just wanted to get the up-to-date 411.

I'm a member and a big fan. I've used the rifle and shotgun ranges. They are VERY safety concious (one guy chewed on me pretty quickly when I let my foot out of the safety cage for 5-stand...fine and dandy with me, chew my *** before someone can get hurt).

I can't speak to cliques, as I just do my shooting and get home, but I have noticed a bunch of old guys sitting around, smokin' and jokin'. People are very nice.

Clays are $3.50 for 25 (soon will be going up to $4.00 for 25), and it costs $12.00/month. Really good value for money. They don't have sporting clays, but the trap/skeet range is always operating on weekends as is the 5-stand. THey have a country doubles that looks to be set up but is not operational due to manpower (they'd need to get another man to set up the machines and do the pulling, and everyone is a volunteer.)
As someone mentioned, you do have to be an NRA member...but let's be honest here, isn't that something you OUGHT to be doing already?!?!? You can have your guns due to the diligent and underappreciated efforts of La Pierre, Heston, and Co.

I am a member and been shooting there for over 15 years. I have shot at many other ranges, and I can tell you that this is one of the safest ranges I have ever been to. You don't have the idiots out there like at the public ranges where you pay 5-10 bucks to shoot for a couple of hours. There is opportunity to compete at PSC if you wish.

I've been a member for almost 4 years now, and like others have said, it is a very safe range. The main reason being is that all new members are required to go through a half day orientation before joining the range. The orientation allows everyone to go through all the club rules, and everyone is given a tour of the facility. Another thing I like is guest are ONLY allowed to be occupied with current members. It is not a public range. All members must display their badges, and believe me, people look out for this. All in all, its a safe place to shoot, and the majority of members I've met have been good people. Definately one of the better shooting ranges in the area.
