First, does anyone have any pictures of theirs or someone elses showing different colors, raised console, etc.?

What is top speed with a Yamaha HPDI 225 or similar, what prop is best for that set up, how much of an effect on speed would a raised console and/or K-top have, how smooth and dry is the ride when crossing a rough bay, and finally, do you have any other thoughts on the set up?

21 Trancat

Here's a buddy of mine's 21 cat. runs super skinny and fast with the TRP. I think it tops out about 48mph. we've been 30 miles offshore in it and ran back into some back lakes in less than 6". Don't know if it will perform the same without the TRP though......and they're few and far between now that they have been discontinued.

Tranny...

We're runnign a 225HP EFI Yam.. Getting in the low 50s w/ a 4bld "lifter" style prop.. could likely get close to 60 w/ a faster prop.. W/ current prop the holeshot will **** near put you in the hospital.. when it was new we were getting about 35mph cruise at 3900rpm and sipping gas.. little slower cruise now that we've shaved off a good bit of prop thanks to the low tides this winter. To date we are 100% satisfied with the boat.

Both of those boats are very nice! I'm thinking about selling my Explorer and building a new TransCat. I'm actually very happy with the performance of the Explorer but want something faster.

I'm running a Lifter now. When you talk about a faster prop, are you talking about a 3 blade or do you know of a 4 blade that will give you more top end?

fishinfool,
We have indeed considered going to a 3bld just to see what it will do. I'm sure we'll get a much better cruise and top end speed, but am a little concerned we'll pay the price when it comes to buzzing around in the back lakes. I'm sure there is a 4bld out there somewhere that is a good compromise, but we just haven't found it yet.

LJC, not sure on the speed drop.. 5mph seems a little sever.. but who the heck knows.. We don't have the raised console so I won't be much help there. We considered adding it, but didn't want to take the weight hit as Tran isn't known for making stuff that is light.

Same here. Gotta luv those trans. You and JankeII got a pretty sharp looking one i might add. I wish i would of got the four instead of three pole holder mount on the sides though. I guess it would be very simple to change.

Hey LBS, your buddy is a guide isnt he. Thats a good lookin boat too.

Tell me about that top Bluffer....

Did I answer all your questions my friend? Post a pic just for grins and thos interested... I would bet I lose at least 5 on top with my console. again 53 with a 18p power tech and my original 19p lifter was a little faster but have had issues since I got it back after I belt a blade, did not perform right and now the hub let go. Can tweek 54 with my merc lab prop, but it is not a bottom end prop and sucks out of the hole.

Fishnfool,

With a TRP and elevated console I get about 45 mph with worn out props. New props were pushing almost 50. If you do get an elevated console make sure it's a least 12" or higher. Mine sits at the same elevation as the sides and the hatch has about a 4" high opening. What I thought would add as a ton of storage holds my only my net.
