I have a question for the group. I am planning a fishing trip for September. I want to fish the jetties at the Packery Channel. Can someone please tell me which is the "Channel" side, and which is the "Surf" side jetty ? Also, where you think I'd have better luck. Thanks in advance.

Packery is a very small jetty. It is only about 75 yds wide. There will be no mistaking the surf and channel side. If you are on the north jetty looking offshore the surf is on your left and channel is on your right. It’s reversed if you are on the south jetty. As far as fishing goes it varies. But you can easily try both surf and channel to see where and what’s biting.

There are two jetties on either side of pass to the gulf - each jetty has a channel side next to the channel and a surf side next to the surf. Where the fish are at any given time depends largely on tide, wind and water conditions at that time.

Thank you very much. This will be my first time at the Packery Channel.

I assume that you won't have a boat.

If the jetties are not producing, we have limited out on black drum, in the summer, in this part of Packery.

You park right next to the channel

You are correct, I won't have a boat. Thank you very much for the map location. It is very much appreciated. May I ask what type bait, used ?

Fresh dead shrimp on a bottom rig treble hook.

There is a bait shop right there by the causeway. Stop there first and just ask what is biting and where. They are good folks.

We did best on the incoming tide. More water moving the better
