Just curious but why are they closing it? I've never fished it so I assume it must be deep and the fish will stack up in there during the cold?

I can't speak to why they are closing it but your assumption is correct that it is deep and the fish do stack up in there when it's cold/no water in the bay.

Edit: I noticed several days ago that bayou's linked to the bay system were already getting extremely low. I'm guessing Jones lake is a giant mud flat right now. Cold water coupled with "no water" force the fish to go to the closest deep water they can find.

Edit/Edit: The link provided above explains it all!

I believe Offat's was manmade-dredged and sand/mud was used to build part of the seawall

If you threw a cast net you wouldn't be able to pick it back up for the dozens of trout that would be in it. You could drop a big treble hook and snag the fish. Its too volatile a situation to let people in there with boats. And the boat traffic would mix up the warmer water down deep with the colder water up top making things worse for the fish.

There is gonna be some fools running around trying to take advantage of the situation. If you want fish that easy just go buy it at HEB. I was gonna go for a boat ride today just to check things out but since I now know the boat traffic could affect them i'll just hang around the house.

I would guess the barge traffic has the same effect in the ICW.

It does. I’ve seen frozen trout roll up in their prop wash.
