Best Route to Trinity Bay from Ft Anahuac Park

Is it best to use the Trinity River or the inside bay ramp to get to Trinity Bay from Fort Anuhauc Park? The river channel seemed hard to navigate when I used it last year

I have lots of family who live in Anahuac and fish Trinity Bay a lot. They say launching out of Oak Island is the easiest and close to some good spots.

I went out the river channel last week.

Went right on out no problem at all. There is a channel it is around five feet maybe a bit deeper in spots .

Keep in mind that was on a day with good tides.and no Norther. Get a good Norther and that depth and width of the channel drops drastically. Combine it with a low tide and most rigs may not make it thru.

So in other words depends on when an what boat.

If you live in Mont Belvieu you might try launching at Hugo Point and going out Red's Bayou. If you haven't done that before maybe sit at the mouth and follow someone out. It can get shallow, especially towards the spillway. Last time I stayed east of that big piece of steel junk in the bay.

I would not launch at the park. I’d go to Oak Island or Hugo. When headed out of Red’s, hug that south side and stay between the stakes once in the bay. Do not turn until at least a few hundred yards or so past that old tank. If you go to the spillway, make sure you swing way out and go in straight and right up the center. Those oyster pads on the edge of the channel are hard on boats.

i wondered about this, all my local stuff is fresh and trashed. and with all of the little fish we have, or lack of good fish, I've been slacking big time. Struggling to get motivated, i plan on changing this, but not in Galvetraz.

I usually use the inside channel at Fort Anahuac, unless going up river. When you are coming out into the bay turn to the left stay near the piers, there are 4 to 6 pvc markers that mark the "channel" stay between them and maintain that line till you get down near the big blue house, the water will start getting deeper and you can turn south towards the bay. When the tides are low like now, you really need to stay on plane. The sediment from the river delta is pretty expansive, well past the last island at the river channel. maintain a wide berth if you are headed to the pocket, or the spillway area. Fishing has not been good for me, in either area, or T bay in general, for matter.
