Maybe this will lighten the mood for some of you.

Wind: 20-25 from the NNE
Water Color: Mud with white caps
General Conditions: Periodic bands of heavy drizzle/light rain
Time: Mid-day, not that you could tell from the gray light

I went today, just because. The wind has had the palms going sideways, and the water is a mess. It was blowing straight down, and slightly into the shoreline I fished.

Today I fished with a green/silver MiroLure on a 9' rod. I could see occasional signs that the wind/current was carrying bait down the shoreline, as you would expect. I decided to cast upwind, and slow-roll the lure just a hair faster than the current. I used the 9' rod, because that's what it took to fling a MiroLure into the gale.

I experimented with different retrieves for 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it's hard in these conditions to find a cast angle that won't give you a big line bow, and will let you get a fairly natural retrieve/fall. Once I picked up the first fish, I had a pretty good feel for the retrieve, and it was rinse and repeat. I was getting a bump on pretty much every cast, and enough hookups to make it a blast.

I hooked one big girl who kept me bowed up for a while, and finally quick-released just before I got a hand on her - which was perfect. The rest of the fish were all 16-18, which is also just about perfect. These fish were all fat, and every one had at least one good-sized mullet in their stomachs. As you can see from the picture, one of them was missing half its head.

They always say that the best time to fish is whenever you can go. Today was living proof of that. Most people would just say the conditions were too bad, but the fish don't know any better. We just got done with fish tacos, and they were excellent. One less trip to the empty meat aisle at HEB.

Get out and fish. Too many other things you can't do anything about.
