Spring Break Fishing in Florida
My daughter and I headed out to South Florida for spring break. We saw lots of nature down in the everglades, and then headed east to do some fishing. First stop was Lake Ida near Boca Raton. We fished with Patrick from Swamp to Sea guide service, who I had fished with before. Conditions were extremely tough with a cold front sweeping through and overcast skies; pretty much the worst conditions for peacock bass. Water was only 67. Still we were able to land 6 along with 9 largemouth bass before the rain chased us off.
Next morning we headed to the salt to fish the intercoastal with Patrick. While waiting for a rainstorm to pass we cast poppers by the launch and hooked three Jack Crevalle in the 5-10lb range. My daughter reeled one in and was pretty surprised at how strong they are. I also hooked a tarpon of about 25lbs on the popper but it jumped off. We then started fishing with jigs tipped with shrimp and landed about 20 more fish of 11 different species. Fun morning. My daughter really liked the peacock bass; she said "they are like regular bass but better". Fun times.
