Navionics Subscription/Updates Worth it?

Is it worth it to purchase yearly updates on Navionics card? I purchased card a few years ago, still utilizing, but not updating? Is this worth it for Galveston bay area?

There are some user updates that come out every few months. You also get updated satellite imagery if you use it. I update my card regularly.

Update Navionics

I am going to update my Navionics soon on a new Helix 9. I can go with the Nav+ or Hotmaps or Platinum+. I fish inshore and lakes in Texas, never offshore. It looks like the Hotmaps covers all of this with the satellite imagery, 3D and photos features. The Nav+ covers more but without the features. The Platinum+ covers offshore more and a lot fewer lakes. It looks like the actual sonar mapping is exactly the same. Unless I missed something, it looks like Hotmaps is the way to go. Input is requested and welcome.

tarpon ??

I purchased the one time $9.99, no updates. I use it regularly for finding protected shore lines, for the current or forecasted wind. That's really all I use it for, but it works well for this.

Navionics+ has good data for lakes and lot of larger rivers. You can get all of North America or just regions. The map data is good but does not have satellite overlay and the 3D steering view. I am getting this chip for my new GPS on my new boat since I plan to do some travelling with the new boat so this will cover the areas I'm going to.

Platinum+ is regional to a smaller area than Nav+ but adds in sat overlay and a few other overview options. I have Platinum plus now but for where I fish and how I fish, I don't care for the sat overlay image. It is somewhat limited to how much it will zoom in so if you need to get in close, the image pixellates. The map data is the same detail as the Nav+.

From what I understand, Hotmaps are really geared toward lakes in specific area or even the actual lake. Tons of points of interest info and, marina overview with sat imagery.

I tournament fish in louisiana alot during the summer so the navionics card has been a huge help for us. If you have ever fished the louisiana marsh you know it all looks the same. We can use the sat. overlay while pre fishing to look for ponds that look like they have better clarity instead of looking at google maps before we leave and hoping we find the same ponds. I would highly recommend it if you can afford it.

Appreciate all yall's input. Just got a Lowrance HDS Live 7. Previously had a Elite Chirp 7 and utilized the Navionics card. So far so good. Getting the Reef Recon soon. Thx!

For bays you are local to the upgrade isnt needed that much. However I fished san antonio bay the other day and there are numerous shell pikes created by oyster boats that arent on my navionics but do show on their website. Probably good idea to update every fee years if u travel.
