Casting practice

Well after coming to the conclusion we are to broke to go to the boat show and stock up on lures , we are saving the gas and funds to actually fish this weekend. On top of that I came to the realization that I have been handicapping my wife’s. I have always figured she would get the hang of casting farther the more we fish. And that may be true but I think it’s time for a little practice in the yard. I cut the hooks off an old one knocker and off we go! Hopefully we can build her confidence when we wade , with out me harping on her so bad. This all came to about from reading an article in Texas salt water magazine. The article was geared towards kids but I think we can relate and utilize the message to make us better anglers!

I’ve used a spinning reel all my life until this year. I started using a baitcaster by practicing in the yard a few times before taking it to the water. I’ve actually gotten pretty good with it. Very few professional over runs so far. Still much more accurate with my spinning reel.

That being said. If you want her to enjoy fishing, get her a spinning reel. I have bought several at garage sales that work great. You can also go on Facebook Marketplace and find them. Being able to use something with confidence instead of fighting things make the experience much more enjoyable.

X3 on the spinner. The backyard practice is the key no matter which one you use. Good luck.

My wife refuses to use a spinning reel. LOL. She's got it in her head that watching videos on casting and such will help her more than practice. She has a bad habit of reverting back to using her waist and shoulder to cast instead of elbow and wrist.

x10 or whatever on the spinner for the lady.. taking her fishing is about her having fun not learning 'the best'. Use a spinnner and put a croaker or shrimp on for her unless she's ready to step up to lures, she'll grow as she has more fun.
