Boat on top of South Jetty

Ran into two guys this morning at Boyds whos boat got stuck on top of the jetty. Said they tried their very first ever trip to the jetty at night yesterday, anchored up on the rough side of the jetty, the anchor came loose and pushed them on top of the rocks. They got rescued by the coast guard. He told me sea tow, which he is a member of, said it was a salvage operation and was not covered by the normal Sea tow membership. I can't believe sea tow would say that.

I couldn't help then but I hope they found someone who could. They were looking for someone to take them out to get their phone and keys, etc. I wondered why get didn't take their phone and keys with them when they got rescued by the coast guard, but I don't ask questions like that to people right after a tramatic experience.

Jetty rats. Thing will be gone in 3 days if they left it there.

Maybe it rolled onto the t-top and it pulled all the screws out to pop it out and rocks ripped up prop / metal around it?

Would be nice if we heard the story how it all happened....

I agree with sgrem. With the Southwest wind the tides have been below normal yet that boat "drifted" on top of the jetty when the anchor line broke?

I'm not an expert but it looks like that boat had to be traveling at a high rate to get on top of the jetty's on a low tide. The lower unit/prop looks like it ran into the jetty at 40+ probably when someone had tipped a few too many or was looking to cash out on an insurance policy...

Yeah, there is more to this story than what I was initially told. There is no way the t top would have come off just by drifting over the rocks. More like a high speed impact. The guys story might be covering for something else.

I had another buddy who fished there on Saturday, and said that boat was not there on Saturday.

No telling how many time it was pushed on and off the rocks before settling in a spot. Sucks how sometimes a poor decision can be so costly. could of been a lot worse.

Looks like the bottom is ripped out of that hull. Lower unit it busted, there is no prop shaft sticking out. Console is ripped out. Sure looks like it was run up on the rocks at speed. I agree with Sea Tow, that is a salvage job, not a tow job.

They were probably beat up and in shock after running up on the jetty and that is why they didn't get their phone and keys off the boat.
