drum Fishing lights under the boat to fish the Port O jetties?

I'm ready to start learning some jetty trout/redfish fishing skills in my boat, and as the dog days of summer approach, fishing at night seems more and more appealing. Years ago I had friends that used to tear up big trout at San Luis Pass fishing under spotlights with a generator in their big jon boat. With the advances in LED lighting these days, do you think it would be better to use spotlights above water or to wrap LED strips on PVC to make my own "drop down" light sources? I have read (somewhere) that green light seems to attract a ton of fish, but can make them bite shy. Would you personally set up inside the channel near rocks and deeper water, or get closer to the beach? I'll make popcorn while y'all weigh in; I'm sure there will be plenty of debate on "the best way to go." I appreciate all solid input.
