Had a good trip. Nothing spectacular. Fished thurs, fri, sat. Mainly channel flats to long bar and pasture areas. Lots of action on smaller trout. I managed to box 9 keepers to 21" to take home. Wind was a factor. Yes I know it's "always windy" there but it was challenging at times. 1/8 and 1/4oz plastic did all the work. Had a few blowups and 1 dink on top. It was good to unwind with some old friends. Didnt look at any emails and never got a call from work. Never took a picture either. There was 4 of us on 2 boats. A word of warning to any other DIY'ers or anyone new to the area. There's a pipeline near marker 61 mainland side with no signs, only some red buoys every 100yrds or so. Our dumb arses thought it was a channel. In the cloudy water the pipe itself looked like a long prop scar that you see everywhere down there. So of course we hit it on full plane. Damaged the skeg on the lower unit but boat still ran fine after. We were extremely lucky. Had it hit 1/2" higher at the drain plug.....you can imagine the rest. Kinda put a damper on things but the good Lord got us there and back with some groceries. So yea...good trip

whoever owns/operates it should do a better job telling the public what it is

A guy that I knew was killed a little ways north of this (mouth of the Arroyo) when he was in a boat that hit a submerged abandoned dredge pipe. This is a hazard that should be reported to the Coast Guard before somebody gets hurt.

Any idea where the pipe originated? I’m not new to the area but not local either and headed down for a week this Sat.

Thanks for the heads up!

no telling. like i said, no signs or markings other than about 6 or 7 red 2' diameter spherical buoys running maybe 1/2mi perpendicular west from marker 61. heck i even went to Coast Guard website to see navigation hazards legend and couldn't find anything about round red buoys. for all i know it could have been there for quite some time but it had been 8 yrs since i had been to SPI. good luck with your trip. smack 'em!
