What’s Furry and Eats a Pelican?

Had the day off yesterday so I hit chocolate bayou in the boat. We were fishing in one of the bends when we see a pelican land on the water with a big crash. Normal behavior for a feeding pelican.

But, then we see it struggle and it gets drug into the brush by a dark furry creature. We were too far to see what it was. Maybe a raccoon?

What’s your best guess at what this could have been?

Thanks for the replies. I’m thinking it had to be a coyote.

Was pretty cool to see nature at work. Fishing wasn’t half bad either.

There's a mean reddish raccoon who lives under the POC jetty rocks, and he loves him some pelican meat.

SGrem is probably right though. ..

Gremmy, you think it could be a gator? or was it just a Coonass makin' gumbo for the tailgate party?

I doubt with the water temps that gator would be out that active.

Definitely some of my kin would set up on a grassy point in a ghillie suit sniping pelicans.....or as some would call em a long nosed brazilian swamp goose....

Im thinkin "Grass Walker" could take on a whole new urban legend right here....
