Me and tha wife getting away for a weekend thinkin about towing tha boat and maybe trying to fish or duck hunt we dunno yet, neither one of us have been there to do either besides me passing through pushing barges, will be bringing our mud boat if we go that route where would be a good place to try ? Grass beds, drop offs? We fish east bay in winter so that's what we are used to if its kinds tha same there, and as far as duck hunting can you hunt tha edges of tha bay and marsh areas? Thanks in advance for anything or heck if anyone doesnt mind takin us I'll pay for gas and we only fish with plastics

I think SGREM is going to be down there a good bit... you might hook up with him for either duck hunting or fishing.

For the duck hunting, yes, you can hunt anywhere you can reach from the saltwater until a bayou / creek becomes less than 30' wide on the mainland as that may mark where private land begins. On the island I wouldn't worry about that as much as it is predominantly public but you might check with others.. I haven't hunted St. Joe... but I've hunted just about everywhere else. From what I'm hearing, right now there's been less ducks on the flats due to all the inland rainfall. Go scout and fish an afternoon and then go set up where you saw the most ducks wanting to be, you can also check with Grem... I think he is actually part duck ;-)

Fishing is going to be weather dependent right now, low tide post front fish the drains; high tide prefront fish the edges and flats closer to deeper water.

Hope you get some good weather.

hooked15 is a Landlubber (+10 to -10)
We just got back. We caught lots of rat reds 15-19 inches and several limits of sheepshead. Like trout support said, pay attention to tides and temp. If one thing isn't working for you make a change. The fish are there, you just have to find them.

Duck hunting has not been all that great down there this year and I have noticed more birds a little further north around Copano.

The ducks numbers have certainly been off down that way. And the big clouds of redheads aren't there like in years past.

But this week had 4 hunters shoot 15 boxes of shells....yes they obviously don't shoot well but goes to show they had plenty of opportunities.

Had another 5 hunters this week get 24 for a purdy good shoot for open bay duck hunting for big ducks....

So the birds seem to be just now getting down....although still scattered.

Always go when you can go.

Saw quiet a few ducks at Shamrock Saturday and kept a limit of trout on plastics. Easy place to launch, plenty of pot holes to fish and plenty of covered spoil islands to duck hunt.

This time of year I like to fish the edge of ICW or other channels down there. Can't help you on the duck hunt. I don't eat them, so I don't kill them. Will say they do at least taste better than geese.

The weekend may see some pretty cold temps. In Houston it will be below freezing Sunday morning. Not sure about down there

It's not very sexy but the ICW has been producing good trout lately, just working the edges with the TM, actually producing higher quality fish at times than some of the typical seasonal Baffin spots, several times ive run 20-40 miles to catch a bunch of mediocre trout down south only to stop and catch a 27-28" trout in the ICW right in front of the house.

Theres not many ducks around this year.
