Just bought my first Laguna rod

Just left the boat show.

I don't know how but somehow I walked out with a Laguna Latis Stick. 6'7", split cork, recoils built by James.

It was a hard choice between the Solo and Latis but James kinda sold me on the Latis.

Great bunch of guys, going to try it out tomorrow!

I got a Solo 3 Boat Shows ago and I have bought two more from them since. You will love that rod. Did you get the spiral wrap guides (I think they call it cyclone??)?

Awesome rods. Hardest part for me is using them all the time because I want them to stay in great shape!

No sir, I have a Billystix with those spiral guides and I'm not a fan of them.

Wasn't able to go out this morning, hopefully tomorrow I will. I'm excited to see how it compares with my Sarge. Can't jump to conclusions yet but I doubt I'll like it more than the Sarge. That rod is unbeatable as of right now.

Got the Laguna paired with a Concept C and 30# Windtamer. We shall see!

I tried posting a pic of it but my phone is being stupid. It's got this really dark blue/sapphire colored wraps on it. Looks sweet with a white Concept C mounted on it.

Curious what makes you not a fan. I've heard a few others with issues, but always wanting to learn.

I have two billy stix with spiral guides which were prizes I won in fishing tournaments. Craftsmanship and quality are top notch. Mine are from 2006/2007 and I think he used St. Croix Premier blanks to build them.

Anyways, my two issues with the spiral eyes were:
1. every cast would land to the left of where I aimed so I had to aim to the right of where I wanted to cast (even changed my casting motion to prevent this without much luck) and
2. when fighting fish (especially larger reds & bass) the rod would torque and cause fatigue in my hand/wrist

My simple reasoning for not liking them is that I'm just not used to it. I prefer just the straight guides in a straight line.. I also don't believe in all that jazz about how the spiral guides help you feel the bite better or fight fish or whatever. It's worked the same exact way as my regular guides in my opinion.

As far as the Billystix quality, I'm the second owner of mine. But just yesterday, somehow some way one of my guides broke off of it. Ever since I've owned the rod, I've felt the epoxy that holds the guides on wasn't very "sturdy." I've had H20 Xpress rods brand new from Academy do this, and now the Billystix has.

I wouldn't be happy had I paid the full price for a brand new one either. It's a nice rod for topwaters, but I don't feel the big money in it. My go to topwater rod is some older 6'6 MH Castaway over the Billystix.

Never an issue from my Waterloo's, the Sarge, and hopefully none with the Laguna. The only high dollar rod I've owned that has given me problems is the Billystix. And, out of the rod builders I've named, the only one that I've read others complain about is Billystix. I've yet to read bad about Sarge, Laguna, or Waterloo.

Bought my first custom rod from billystix. A Xmas present for my son. Never heard of a spiral wrap nor have I ever seen a casting rod without a trigger handle. Never talked about those two things when I ordered it. Boy was I surprised when it arrived. Son loves it but I’m not happy about getting something I did not order for that kind of money

I’m of the same opinion as you. My Stix is the best looking rod I have and truly a work of art, but, I’ve got Waterloo’s, Lagunas, and Kistlers that are all much better.

You’re gonna love the Laguna. I’ve got a TX Wader I, Wader II, and Liquid. They are fantastic rods and when I had a problem with the Wader II (snapped on a fish) they replaced it even though it was originally built years before by previous ownership. I’ll definitely be buying another Laguna at some point down the road
