Hey guys. I jug lined last year in the winter on toledo and caught good size blue cats on live perch in 25-30 ft of water. I got some good tips from all you catfish pros, so here I am again! Going back to toledo this weekend and wanted to set out a couple jug lines but obviously, its summer now, so I figured it may not be a deep water deal or it may be (no idea!). What depth range should I concentrate on to get some more of those tasty blue cats! Also, structure, creek arms, etc...? Thanks in advance!
Lots of the jugging folks use drifting jugs this time of year. About 30" of line with maybe a small dog ear sinker clamped on above the hook and let it drift with a small piece of cut bait or fresh shad on a #4 circle hook.
Pay attention to depth try different spots and like ss said drifting works best. Only add i can think of is to use the line clamps and stager a few hooks at diff depths till you zero in on what you're looking for. Check the regs and don't exceed the hook limits and most important post up pics.
I catch big cat fish on 30" of line in water 40 feet deep, I also run them water about 10 to 20 feet deep in coves. The drifters are easier to keep up with in a cove.
