Old PC

I have an old windows 98 emachine I need to remove personal files and get rid of it. I think it has what they called a win drive, not a typically hard drive. How do I disable it? Where is the best place to take it?

Copy and transfer any files you want to keep...download a version of linux, let it formate the drive and everything would be gone...if your the ultra parnoid type, pull the hard drive out and Clintonize it

I really need to know the specs (ram and HDD size, hdmi ect) to give a best option of linux imo...but why not use it as a media center.

Reality is not many people want or need a old system...unless they can use it. I've made up some for young kids with learning games installed ect but Adults don't want them. Just don't toss in the trash, there are uses..I'm a packrat

Those old compters/operating system are gold for the diy cnc machine builder.

Much of the current components will not run well on newer operating systems.

Scrub the data and put it on CL for free.

Dispose of when you get your data off. No reason to run that old inefficient gear with fans and moving parts when you can replace it with something like an alix board /apu and etc comsuming 6 watts of power!
