been running outboards/johnson/evinrude for the better part of 40 years, and always used the cheapest priced TC-W3. never had a motor go bad of have issues from it.

I hear you. But a typical mechanic sees more problems in a month than you and I will see in a lifetime.

So when they talk, I pay attention.

when the techs speak, i always try to listen with an open mind, but I'm 58, so I like to use my experience to verify what I hear. the proof is in the pudding(40 years TC-W3 no issues, speaks volume for me). It really comes down to what you feel comfortable with, i'm good with cheap priced, and has proven to be perfectly fine.

Since Citgo makes a majority of the 2 cycle oil, the basic difference in most brands out there today is the DYE.
Out board mfg's do not make oil!

So true about the oil manufacturers. A good friend of mine was running the Walmart Brand not sure of the name. Anyways blew the power head. Motor repair shop notified him that Walmart oil caused the failure and no warranty was given. Walmart was contacted about this issue, Walmart contacted Johnson outboards and the problem was solved .

What are you some kind of loony old man? Dont you know you gotta get the stuff that's $38 or it will never ever work. 40 years or not no way that stuff even works at all. Gotta search online for the most expensive stuff or that motor gonna fall off the transom.

Just bought a 2002 Kenner 2102V with a 2002 Mercury 150 Saltwater. Family that was the original owner has never run anything but the pennsoil 2 cycle from Walmart. Never any issues with the motor and it runs great. If it ain’t broke, I not going to fix it.

this is what I've been told since the beginning of time. i can't verify it, don't know any quicksilver, OMC, Yamaha etc buyers. I can remember paying as little as $7.95 gal or something rediculous years back. Again always running OMC and the cheapest priced TC-W3 available.

I got my prescription sun glasses from walmart, Rayban frames, and Nikon manufactured the lenses.

I've always thought of Pennzoil as a high end product, it's probably pricey compared to the Super Tech at $14.44/gal.
