Blue Cat Migratory Patterns - Lake Conroe

Alrighty Fellers... looking for advice from some of you trophy blue cat chasers. From late fall until recently I was regularly catching 10-20lb blues south of the 1097 bridge in 25-30 feet of water on large gizzard shad, Santee rigged. Now I'm being tormented by channel cats in that area... and durn little buggers will attempt to eat a gizzard shad half their size! Where, generally speaking, have the blues gone? And what tends to be their habit from now til the real heat of summer begins? Missing the blues is giving me the blues!

PS... my boat is optimized for slow trolling (controlled drift, basically, @ 0.5-0.8 mph) with lines off the stern. But when I've tried unfamiliar territory, I've lost quite a few $$ of terminal tackle on snags. Should I be anchoring up instead?

688,
I am a die hard Lake Conroe crappie fisherman. This past year I have seen more channel cats then ever before. I fish brushpiles and can fill a 50qt chest every trip with them. Don't like to eat em so back they go. Tons of the things this year. I mean big ones too.
Not a one blue cat if that helps. I fish mostly the south end.

I haven't drifted much, but I catch alot of blues on jugs all year round in the same general areas. Sometimes they are generally shallower, sometimes generally deeper. The only difference I can tell between drifting and jugging is the hook is not usually near the bottom with my jugs. Rod fishing the bottom almost always produces channels for me. So, maybe you're fishing below the blues. I've caught many on 4-6 ft juglines in 20-25 ft of water. Just my experience. Hope this helps.
