Didn't Bluefin recreational season close Jan 31?

Does GYB have their certified scales out this time of year? Do they still even have them? I have not fished a tournament there in many, many moons.

no pics, and no fist hand account from the angler, something smells fishy, and the fact that they are headed to Mexico, even fishier. I dont think I have waders high enough to wade thru this thread.

Bluefin tuna has no season in the Gulf, as in no recreational catch allowed.

From the NMFS site:

Atlantic HMS Angling Permit (Recreational) Description All owners/operators of vessels fishing recreationally for and/or retaining regulated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (Atlantic tunas, sharks, swordfish and billfish) in the Atlantic Ocean, including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, must obtain an Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) permit. Similar to Atlantic tunas permits, 2005 Atlantic HMS permits cost $22.00 and will be valid from the date of issuance through May 31, 2006.

If you go here http://www.nmfspermits.com/other/2005RegBroc071205.pdf you'll see the limits for the angling category and if you go here http://www.nmfspermits.com/news.asp you'll see that while many of the categories are closed, the angling (recreation) is stil open (as of 2/15/06).

If its a bluefin and they have a permit, they're good to go it would seem.
