Ol glassy

Well I broke down and tied another glassy, it’s been a few years since I tied a realistic pattern. Didn’t design it but I do enjoy tying them every now and then, I have some changes I want to make to the pattern, replacing the mini legs with silly legs, adding more of an antenna, etc.. took me a while a few years back to get the fly to swim correctly but when I saw a fat wake behind it for the very first time I didn’t think that redfish cared about it’s slight tilt. Well y’all don’t be shy give me some feed back!

Tight lines,

Capt Vince

Looks good! Looks a lot like a shrimp. If it looks good to the fish, then you have got a winner for sure.

Are you using Epoxy or the UV cure? Does it swim hook point up? What hook are you using? It looks like you have shaped the hook with a slight bend, but that could be an optical illusion caused by the materials. Looks like a stinger hook.

I used to work with the 5 minute epoxy on spoon patterns, surf candy and others, but got to where I didn’t like messing with the mess. The UV cure is a lot easier to work with, but I have better luck with it curing well when applied in thin layers and then lit up.

Hard to go wrong with a shrimp pattern. What fish doesn’t like shrimp? Don’t make it too realistic or you’ll start getting hardheads!

So thiamine is tied in a size 2 B10s gamakatsu hook with a slight bend up the eye of the hook. It rids hook point up due to the stacking of monofilament to make the entire body. I use loon thick uv finish to create the coat of the shrimp.

I like those B10 Gamakatsu stingers. I use them for Baitfish and deer hair diver patterns, hadn’t tried one for shrimp flies.

You could always put a few pink or other color strands in the fly just for a variety. Or put a magic marker cross section mark for some banding effect on the mono before covering it with the UV. Or just leave it be and fish it just as it is. Lots of ways to skin a cat.
