When I was a youngster, my dad hung our at an ice house . . . in southern Florida.
Sometimes, I got a piece of pickled pigs feet.

An ice box was a food storage cabinet with a compartment for ice to keep the food cool. Thus the name "ice box." Later an electric motor and compressor were added and it was called a "refrigerator."
