f250 gas gear swap?

I have a '11 F250 4wd with the 6.2 gasser and 3.73 gears. I was thinking about changing out to 4.30. I've read some positive things. Anyone have any real world experience with the 4.30 and the 6.2 together? The reason for the thought was to up my towing capacity (12k - 15k). Plus the thing down shifts a lot when pulling a lowboy w/ a scooter on it through the hill country. 4th or 5th to 3rd and sometimes 2nd, hard on the engine and trans it seems.
Thanks,
Kenny

Your towing capacity will be on the truck and/or hitch assembly, the gears have nothing to do with that other than helping pull the load. To answer your question, I have also heard the 4:30 gears help the gas engine...course you could always get a diesel and not have to worry about it.

The 2011's out fitted like mine with the 6.2 and the 3.37 are rated for 12K no matter if on the receiver or over the axle. With the 4.30 it goes up to 15K over the axle and 12K on the receiver.

I would love to get a diesel but, this one is paid for. And if it will do the job...

I would think a 3.73 would be a good compromise between towing and just solo cruising. Can you lock out the higher gears? A 4.30 would be screaming at 70+mph.
I would be sure the trans is in good condition and let it shift down. Watch the trans temps.
I'm towing a 18,000lb 5th wheel with 3.73, but behind a Cummins diesel.

had a F-350 with a 5.4 and went 4.56 gears and it was the best thing i did as far as towing ability for that weak engine.

having said that i bought a 6.7 powerstroke and dont miss the gasser anymore.
