Towing a Trailer

I have a Chevy Equinox that has a 1500lb towing capacity. I towed a 5' X 8' trailer to Eagle Pass because my project here is complete and I need to move things home. My guess is the trailer weighs about 500lbs. I towed it as I would normal drive (shift position in D). It dropped in and out of overdrive non-stop on the way to Eagle Pass. Now I'm going to load approximately 600lbs of stuff home giving me a total tow weight of 1100lbs. My shift choices are L = Low, I = Intermediate?? and D = Drive. What would y'all suggest pulling the loaded trailer a distance of 350 miles in? L? I? D? I've read not to pull in overdrive.
