The Galveston Surf is "On"
You guys and Gals are missing some awesome surf action for Specks in Galveston if you haven't had a chance to make it.
I have been hitting the surf as time has been available with my work schedule. It has been awesome!! I have been at the Sea Wall and on the West end of Galveston. I have thrown Croakers, live shrimp and artificials and have had great success with all. The best quality of Trout have came from using Croakers. Had a stringer last week with all fish between 18" & 26". The strong bite is early and the fish are holding at the second guts. Everytime I have gone, 5x, I have had my limits no later then 9:30am. Everyday I have left them biting.
The water has been decent and some of the days the surf is more comfortable then others. Not one time did I pull up and the Surf looked liked it would beat me up too bad.
Remember when fishing along the seawall, the rock groins can produce some hefty currents and consume you pretty quickly without notice. Its always a good habit to get a whistle to put around your neck. At the seawall someone can hear you if you get in a bind and have to blow the whistle. On the West end, I would be selective and make sure you got a little experience under your belt, because there are some days when you will be solo out there for quite some time.
If using live bait, tie your bait bucket to you about 3' or so back and put the metel tip of the stringer in one of the holes of the bait bucket lid. Works awesome and if it needs to break away because someone is hungry, it will. There are sharks everywhere!! The stats on shark bites are rare but remember we are closing in on those stats by creating situations that grab the Sharks attention.
Be Safe and Enjoy every moment on the water.
